Episode 1253 – Beware of False Prophets and Mystics!

I talked about the dangers of the MAiD program in Canada just yesterday. Well, a new study came out yesterday making the MAiD program look bad and the Second Amendment look pretty good.

California keeps adding regulations that give the state government more control, takes power away from small communities, and will make your life far more expensive. That’s what good communists do.

And, the Bible has always warned us to beware and shun false prophets. This advice is as true today as it was 2000 years ago.

So, What Is More Dangerous?

According to the Post Millennial:

Canada’s medical assistance in dying (MAID) program accounted for more deaths than gun homicides in the United States in 2024. This is despite the US having roughly eight times the population as Canada.

A total of 16,499 people received MAID in Canada in 2024, according to Health Canada’s Sixth Annual Report on MAID, the latest report available. In the US, 15,364 people were killed by a gun in 2024, per a report from the Johns Hopkins Center for Gun Violence Solutions. The MAID total is 1,135 higher.

MAID deaths reached a record high in 2024 and made up around 5 percent of all deaths in Canada, or about 1 in 20.

Senator Mike Lee commented on the difference between the death rates with MAID and gun homicide and responded, “State-administered death is now more common in Canada than gun homicide is in the U.S. That didn’t happen by accident.”

Good Job, Gavin!

According to the California Post:

Californians may have to pay even higher homeowners association fees thanks to a law that could be signed by Gov. Gavin Newsom before the end of the month.

Assembly Bill 2050 would require HOAs to maintain a 30-year reserve fund and conduct a study of the reserve account.

If an HOA’s reserves fund is projected to fall below zero at any point during the 30 years, the association must transfer at least 15% of its gross annual budget into reserves each year beginning January 2032.

If the HOA’s budget can’t cover the required transfer, the bill requires the HOA to raise fees on homeowners through a “special assessment.” It’s not clear how much the bill could raise monthly fees for homeowners.

The law would affect millions, as nearly a quarter of California households pay HOA according to U.S. Census Bureau data.

Newsom has until September 30 to sign the bill into law or veto it.

Later in the article, I found the reason why the California government wants to control community organizations:

Proponents of the bill say it would make sure HOAs are better able to keep up building maintenance and other costs. Robert DeNichilo, legislative co-chair at the Community Associations Institute’s California Legislative Action Committee, told the SF Chronicle that the bill budgets “the actual cost of ownership.”

In California, HOAs can can increase regular dues by up to 20% per fiscal year without a vote from community members.

James Talarico is the Senate candidate in Texas, running against the awful candidate, Ken Patterson. In case you don’t know much about Talarico, he is a socialist that for trans-ing the kids, getting rid of all fossil fuels, believes God and Jesus are non-binary, thinks that Jesus supported illegal immigration, and thinks everyone should be a vegan.

This is crazy talk. This is blasphemy.

  • God was not just a vengeful God in the Old Testament. He was training us.
  • The Virgin Birth is the cornerstone of the Christian faith.
    • Mary was not married when she conceived through the holy spirit.
    • Joseph married her anyway because God told him to in a dream.
    • Mary ascended into Heaven, as Jesus did, and was crowned Queen of Heaven and Earth.
    • This was accounted for by the prophets and apostles.
  • The free choice and having the ability to think for ourselves.
    • We already know this.
    • Jesus wrote parables about it (Matthew 25:14–30) about the landowner giving his servants different amounts of money to invest.
    • We also have free will. We can reject God (Jesus is God) as this woman has done.
    • We always have choice. The Old Testament and Jesus in the New Testament always taught this.
  • As far as the 12-step program, she’s wrong.
    • I was in AA. You did not get rid of anything.
    • The goal was to get rid of your resentments and ATONE for your past transgressions (SINS).
    • In fact, to cure oneself, one needed to believe in a higher power, which was God.
    • We closed every session with either the Our Father or the Serenity Prayer.
  • Jesus did exist. Every legitimate historian believes Jesus existed.
    • The Romans kept records including tax records, census records, and citizenship records. Jesus is listed.
    • It was also listed that Jesus was a problem and it was because He was teaching against the Sanhedrin. This was recorded.
    • Roman leadership wrote about Jesus in their diaries, usually not in endearing terms.
    • There were witnesses at the Crucifixion that were converted, including Roman soldiers. They wrote about it.
    • St. Paul was a pro-Roman Pharisee and a witness of Christ’s life. He wrote a huge portion of the New Testament.
    • Three of the four Gospels were written by Jesus’ desciples.
  • The New Testament of the Bible is an actual historical record of Jesus’ life. No one doubts this and there has been confirmation.
  • Science is even beginning to believe the Shroud of Turin is real!

  • Fans of classical history and “historical epics” have criticized the armor, helmets, ships, and general production design as anachronistic or more “comic book” than Bronze Age Greece.
  • Another recurring complaint is Nolan’s decision to use contemporary-sounding language in the dialogue instead of archaic or elevated speech that would mirror traditional translations of Homer.

So They Shouldn’t Know How to Speak

According to the New York Post:

Activists are pushing for Black English to be legitimized in preschool as a way to build children’s literacy skills in California.

The Black Californians United for Early Care & Education (BlackECE) is part of a movement to challenge “harmful language hierarchies and affirm Black English as a legitimate, rule-governed language rooted in Black history, culture, and community.”

The movement also seeks to “address how language bias shows up in early learning spaces–and how it can be dismantled.”

“I don’t want my son to walk into any room and feel like his voice is not valued or his perspective can’t be heard because he’s not saying it one way or the other,” the co-founder of BlackECE Ashley Williams told PBS.

She also remembered how speaking Black English is full of slangs and grammatical errors so it came with a lot of embarrassment.

BlackECE is a nonprofit organization centered around a 10-point policy plan that seeks to gain reparations and help Black children, families, and workers.

California released a plan promoting early dual language learning and calling on the state’s education system to support bilingual children in their development in 2020, but the advocacy group believes that Black vernacular should be included.

“We talk about multilinguals, but we don’t include Black children who may be African-American English speakers,” the Director of the Children’s Equity Project Xigrid Soto-Boykin said.

Williams also recalled her experiences in having to “talk white” and talking in her comfortable English and feeling insecure.

A series of shocking videos show homeless residents on Los Angeles’ Skid Row claiming they were paid to vote for Mayor Karen Bass and councilwoman Nithya Raman.

The California Post obtained copies of the videos after they were published Tuesday on the TikTok account LaneNeedsSpencerPratt.

The footage, recorded near 7th Street and Flower Street in downtown Los Angeles on Tuesday morning, has since been provided to the Department of Justice. It also follows The Post’s revelations that thousands of homeless voters were registered to shelters where they didn’t live.

One shelter in Venice, where 185 Raman voters were registered, received $600,000 from taxpayers care of the socialist Raman.

In one of the clips, a man who calls himself Kevin Shepherd, claimed he received $4 to vote for Bass.

A Somali referee selected to officiate at the 2026 FIFA World Cup has been barred from entering the United States after federal authorities discovered information linking him to suspected members of terrorist organizations.

Omar Artan, Somalia’s only referee appointed to the tournament, was denied admission after arriving at Miami International Airport from Istanbul on Saturday. According to a Trump administration official who spoke to Fox News, Customs and Border Protection officers uncovered “derogatory” information during an inspection that rendered Artan inadmissible under federal immigration law.

In a statement provided to Fox News, the administration said, “This individual was seeking admission to the United States. Upon further inspection by CBP, derogatory information, including association with suspected members of terror organizations, was discovered making the traveler ineligible for admission to the United States under the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA). The traveler was refused admission and given immigration forms that provide the section of law used to complete an expedited removal under 8235 of the INA. President Trump’s administration will not allow any security threat to enter our country – full stop.”

The decision effectively ends Artan’s participation in the World Cup, which is being hosted in part by the United States. FIFA confirmed Monday that Artan would no longer take part in referee training or officiate matches during the tournament. The organization said it had been informed by US authorities that his immigration status would not be changed.

DeCarlos Brown Jr, the man who was charged with stabbing Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska to death on the Charlotte light rail, has been found incompetent to stand trial, according to federal prosecutors. 

Brown, 34, appeared in federal court on Tuesday morning, where federal Judge Kenneth Bell found ruled that Brown did not understand the proceedings, and could not stand trial. During the hearing, Brown shouted about having “material in his body” and said that he was having a “body emergency” during the brief hearing at the courthouse, per Queens City News. 

The judge, as the ruling came down, said, “[I] hope that what happens here will be accurately recorded by professional press and social media.” Brown was evaluated at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Chicago through the Bureau of Prison. 

After shouting during the hearing, he was escorted out of the room. He shouted more at the judge and asked if the judge had gotten a letter from his mother. The killer will now get medication as well as treatment in an effort to restore his competency for up to four months. 

If Brown is not found to be competent at that point, he may be held in federal custody under federal commitment laws. Another hearing may determine is he has to be forcibly medicated. The prosecutors in the case did not present any evidence in the 15-minutes hearing on Tuesday.  

“The court found that his prognosis is ‘good’ to be made competent and set a four-month deadline to have that process go forward,” US Attorney for the Western District of North Carolina Russ Ferguson said. “The court ordered that he seek treatment and medication.”

A top Trump agency is cutting off funding to the Los Angeles agency responsible for coordinating billions in homelessness spending after accusing it of “obvious fraud,” “wanton mismanagement” and repeated failures to safeguard taxpayer dollars, Fox News Digital has learned.

The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), which is a member of the White House fraud task force led by Vice President JD Vance, is immediately suspending the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority’s (LAHSA) federal funding while HUD’s inspector general investigates potential offenses by the agency and its leadership, according to a letter sent to LAHSA’s board chair Wendy Greuel and its CEO Gita O’Neill, which was obtained and reviewed by Fox News Digital. 

The letter detailed conflicts of interest, financial mismanagement, fraud, lack of oversight, and more from the homelessness agency, which has faced efforts by the city and county to take it over.

The move puts one of the country’s biggest homelessness bureaucracies under direct federal scrutiny after years of criticism that billions have gone into homelessness programs in Los Angeles while the crisis remains entrenched on the streets. LAHSA receives funding at the city, county, state and federal level, with the group getting nearly $1 billion from just the federal government since 2021, according to HUD.

Things could really get shaken up for November elections tonight. Here are the primary elections to pay attention to.

  • In Iowa, incumbent Senator Joni Ernst is not seeking another term, and there are two Republicans and two Democrats in the running to take the position. The winners of the Tuesday primary in Iowa will advance to the general election. US Rep. Ashley Hinson has campaigned with support from Ernst and is running against former state Sen. Jim Carlin, who has talked about his legislative experience and donor independence. For the Democrats, Rep. Josh Turek is running against state Sen. Zach Wahls in the primary.
  • For California Governor. The top contenders from each party appear to be Democrat Xavier Becerra, who served as former President Joe Biden’s Secretary of Health and Human Services, and Republican Steve Hilton, who has been endorsed by President Donald Trump. Other Democrats in the race include billionaire Tom Steyer, Katie Porter, and others.
  • In Montana, Republican Senator Steve Daines is not seeking a third term and has endorsed US Attorney Kurt Alme to replace him. Trump has also endorsed Alme. He also has endorsements from Tim Sheehy and Gov. Greg Gianforte.

It’s Not a Right

A Trump administration policy illegally banned transgender troops from military service, a divided panel of federal appeal court judges ruled on Monday.

The majority opinion by a three-judge panel from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia circuit largely upholds a March 2025 ruling by U.S. District Judge Ana Reyes in Washington, D.C. Reyes concluded that President Donald Trump’s executive order to exclude transgender troops from military service likely violates their constitutional rights.

The administration appealed after Reyes issued a preliminary injunction requested by attorneys for six transgender people who are active-duty service members and two others seeking to join the military. The appeal court’s majority decided that the injunction should be narrowed to the plaintiffs currently serving in the military but not those seeking to join.

The ruling won’t immediately go into effect, allowing the administration time to ask the full appeals court to hear the case.

The U.S. Supreme Court allowed the transgender military ban to go into effect last year, as litigation continues to play out. Another lawsuit challenging the ban was filed in Washington state and led to a ruling in favor of the plaintiffs challenging the policy in that case.

According to the Post Millennial:

Outdoor retailer Patagonia has revealed that it has offered to resolve its lawsuit against a drag queen that goes by the name “Pattie Gonia” so long as he ceases using the company’s branding in products. The drag queen has refused the company’s offer. 

“There’s a lot going around about the lawsuit we filed in January to protect our trademarks, and we owe you an update,” Patagonia wrote in a social media post on Sunday.

“We wish this lawsuit had not been necessary, and we want to acknowledge any hurt it has caused, especially in the LGBTQ+ community. We don’t want to argue trademark law on social media. Importantly, we continue to want to resolve this.”

The company said it would resolve the lawsuit if the drag queen agrees to withdraw “all trademark applications,” cease using the brand’s longtime logo, and cease “selling and promoting apparel and other products as Pattie Gonia.” 

“If we can agree on this, we can work out everything else, and Pattie Gonia could continue as a performer and activist. We share common ground with them, including the goal of saving our home planet and creating a more inclusive outdoors,” the statement concluded. 

The drag queen responded in a statement to social media on Monday evening, writing, “Patagonia just posted their ‘offer’ to settle. When I told you that they were trying to erase my advocacy, their bullet #3 is what I was talking about: ‘Stopselling and promoting apparel and other products as Pattie Gonia.'”

“Patagonia is not just talking about my upcycled t-shirt merch in that bullet point. They’re talking about the partnership work with other brands that I’ve done for years to pay for the education, advocacy and activism that me and my team do,” the drag queen wrote. “If I can’t do partnerships as Pattie Gonia, it breaks the whole ecosystem of advocacy and community engagement. And they understand this because their work is built on the exact same model – advocacy work funneled through commercial work.”

“Bullet points #1 and #2 – I’ve already said I would agree to. Bullet #3 – absolutely not. No deal, Patagonia,” the drag queen concluded. 

Patagonia sued the drag queen in January over a trademark application filed by Pattie Gonia, whose real name is Wyn Wiley, alleging that it will “confuse consumers” and cause irreparable harm to the brand. The brand said that the products and services for which Wiley applied for a trademark “compete directly with the products and advocacy upon which Patagonia built its Patagonia brand for over the last fifty-three years.”

The company claimed that they had reached out to Pattie Gonia and it was “understood that the parties had reached agreement about how that advocacy work might continue in a way that would not interfere with Patagonia’s brand.” This agreement, the filing stated, has not been honored.

  • Massie lost his primary election on Tuesday evening to Trump-backed challenger Ed Gallrein. Additionally, other Trump-aligned candidates scored victories, including in Georgia, Alabama, Indiana, and Louisiana, while anti-Trump candidates struggled.
  • The Justice Department unsealed a federal indictment Wednesday against former Cuban President Raúl Castro, accusing the 94-year-old communist leader of playing a central role in a 1996 attack that left three Americans and one United States resident dead.
    • Castro, the younger brother of the late Cuban dictator Fidel Castro, faces charges including conspiracy to kill U.S. nationals, destruction of aircraft, and murder, Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche announced in Miami to a cheering crowd. The Trump administration hopes to try Castro on United States soil.
    • The charges stem from a 1996 incident wherein Cuba shot down two planes operated by the Miami-based exile group Brothers to the Rescue. The organization attempted to search for Cubans fleeing the communist country by boat. Four people were killed in the attack.
  • The alleged gunmen in a shooting rampage that left three people dead outside a San Diego mosque have been identified as 17-year-old Cain Clark and 18-year-old Caleb Velasquez, according to a law enforcement source.
    • At least one of the suspects took a weapon from his parents’ home and left a suicide note that talked about racial pride, a law enforcement source told The Post.
    • Clark and Velasquez were found dead inside a BMW from self-inflicted gunshot wounds only a few blocks from the Islamic Center of San Diego.
    • Anti-Islamic writings were found in the suspects’ vehicle and “hate speech” was written on the firearms used in the shooting, according to the source.
    • The teenage San Diego mosque gunmen appear to have left behind a shocking, hate-filled manifesto, which praised Adolf Hitler and a slew of mass murderers, before the attack, The California Post has learned.
    • The document expresses a desire to spark a race war and bring about the end of civilization.

A teenage stabbing victim bled to death on the street in Southampton after British police arrested and cuffed him rather than his alleged Sikh attacker, after the suspect claimed he’d been racially abused, according to court testimony.

Henry Nowak, 18, a finance student at the University of Southampton, was walking home from a night out in December 2025, chatting with some friends on Snapchat, when he was encountered by Vickrum Digwa, 23. After a brief exchange, Digwa stabbed Nowak with an eight-inch Sikh ceremonial shastar blade, according to court testimony reported by BBC. A post-mortem examination showed Nowak had four stab wounds, BBC reported.

Nowak tried to escape over a fence, but was “aggressively pursued” by Digwa, jurors were told.

However, when Hampshire Constabulary police officers arrived at the scene, they arrested the dying Nowak rather than Digwa after the suspect claimed he’d been “racially abused and attacked by a drunken man,” prosecutor Nicholas Lobbenberg KC said, ITV News reported.

Nowak was handcuffed and police administered first aid before he fell unconscious, according to Lobbenberg. He died a short time later at the scene. “Put simply,” the prosecutor told jurors, “Henry drowned in his own blood, with his lung having been cut by the knife going eight centimeters into him.”

Lobbenberg acknowledged that Sikh males are allowed to carry a knife as part of their religious obligation. Digwa did have a small ceremonial knife called a kirpan in his possession. However, the knife used to stab Nowak was an “extremely large knife” openly displayed over Digwa’s clothing, ITV News reported.

The prosecutor challenged Digwa’s claim that Nowak was drunk, saying the student had drunk less than the law’s drink-drive limit.

In a direct assault on the constitutional rights of law-abiding Virginians, Democratic Governor Abigail Spanberger signed a sweeping package of gun control measures, including a ban on commonly owned semi-automatic firearms and standard-capacity magazines.

Spanberger signed the legislation into law on Thursday, criminalizing the purchase, sale, manufacture, and importation of the AR-15 — the most popular rifle in America — along with a wide range of semi-automatic handguns and shotguns. The National Rifle Association responded immediately, filing a state lawsuit to block these unconstitutional mandates before the ink could even dry.

While the governor attempted to frame her last-minute amendments as “technical changes,” the NRA has denounced them as a transparent attempt to rebrand blatant violations of the Second Amendment.

When she campaigned for governor, Spanberger studiously avoided calling for the kind of ban she just signed, saying instead, “We need to strengthen Virginia’s safe storage laws, prevent the sale of large-capacity magazines, and crack down on criminals who manufacture and possess illegal, untraceable ghost guns — efforts that would keep Virginia’s kids, families, and law enforcement officers safe.”

A suspect drawing swastikas on property in Fayetteville, North Carolina, has been revealed to be a black man who has also been arrested on charges of pointing a gun at people and passing cars.

Taquon Jameek Vereen, 18, has been identified as the suspect who was caught on video spray painting the Nazi symbol on a building as well as other property.

He posted a $1,500 bond on Tuesday for the swastika incident. However, later that same day, he was arrested for pointing a gun at passing cars and people on the street. Police said that they got multiple calls about a black man pointing a gun at people on the street.

He is now being held at $2,500 bond for the charges related to pointing the gun at people on the street.

A federal judge declared a mistrial on Thursday after a jury failed to reach a verdict in a case against a leftist musician accused of assaulting federal agents during a 2025 demonstration at the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in Portland, Oregon. Assistant US Attorney Kathryn Rykken said the government plans to refile felony charges against defendant Oriana Rebecca Korol.

Korol, 38, of Portland, has been accused of biting and kicking a federal officer while being detained for interfering with a separate arrest. The 12 jurors deliberated for roughly eight hours before US District Court Judge Karin Immergut declared a mistrial after a unanimous decision was not reached, the Oregonian reported.

A tentative new trial date has been scheduled for June 16. The incident occurred on October 12, 2025.

According to court documents, Korol was captured on video footage pulling a male protester away from federal officers who were attempting to arrest him. A Department of Homeland Security Federal Protective Service (FPS) officer pushed Korol out of the way, knocking her to the ground.

While on the ground, Korol allegedly kicked an FPS officer in the right leg. She was placed under arrest but resisted. During a struggle, Korol allegedly proceeded to bite the officer’s left arm with her teeth, according to the affidavit. It took several federal agents to take Korol into custody. 

Judge Immergut informed the jury at the beginning of the case that in order to convict Korol, they would need to establish that Korol had made coercive physical contact with the officer while performing his duties and that the contact had not been conducted in the course of justified self-defense. The judge said that forcible assault happens when someone intentionally strikes or willfully injures another person. 

The foreperson informed Judge Immergut that it would be unlikely for the jury to reach a unanimous decision. The judge thanked and dismissed the jurors and said, “No case is easy. Certainly this case was not an easy one,” according to the Oregonian.

    • Trump identified the terrorist as Abu-Bilal al-Minuki, whom he described as ISIS’s second-in-command globally.
    • Trump also thanked the Nigerian government for its cooperation in the mission.
  • Upon request of the Virginia governor, Abigail Spanberger, the Supreme Court refused to block the Virginia’s Supreme Court decision to block Virginia’s redistricting efforts.
    • The Virginia Supreme Court disallowed the redistricting by a 4-3 decision.
    • They said the process per the Virginia constitution was not followed, there was no review period, early voting had already started, and the language of the proposal on the ballot was unclear (misleading).
  • Edwin Díaz, the $69 million closer for the Los Angeles Dodgers, has been linked to an alleged illegal cockfighting operation in his native Puerto Rico, according to a report by USA Today.
    • The controversy deepened after a March interview with Puerto Rican newspaper El Nuevo Día resurfaced in which Díaz openly discussed his family’s participation in cockfighting events.
    • According to the outlet, Díaz said his family entered four roosters into a recent tournament and described cockfighting as a hobby he had followed since childhood.
  • Democrat Rep. Steve Cohen of Tennessee has announced that he will be dropping his reelection bid after representing the state’s 9th Congressional District for over 19 years. The move comes after the GOP state legislature split up his district in a redistricting move that some have claimed to be “racist.”
  • Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has secured a $10 million settlement in a case against Texas Children’s Hospital over illegal sex changes in the form of surgeries and prescriptions being given to minors. As part of the settlement, the hospital will also be forced to fund a “detransition” clinic and treat those patients free of charge for the first five years.

  • Senate Republicans on Tuesday successfully launched their floor takeover to put Senate Democrats on record against Trump-backed voter ID legislation.
    • Still, opening up what will be a multi-day marathon debate on the bill wasn’t without its hiccups. Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, joined all Senate Democrats to block the legislation. Sen. Thom Tillis, R-N.C., who threatened to do everything he could to block the bill, did not vote. 
  • Celebrations for what would have been civil rights activist Cesar Chavez‘s 99th birthday are being canceled ahead of what’s being described as “deeply troubling allegations” against the historic figure.
    • As cancellations grew, the United Farm Workers (UFW), an organization co-founded by Chavez, released a statement on Tuesday confirming allegations were being made, including ones involving abuse of young women or minors. In response, the UFW announced it would no longer take part in any Cesar Chavez Day activities.
    • It is unclear at this time what the source of the allegations are and the details surrounding them.
    • Chavez has been a longtime-celebrated figure in the Democratic Party as a model for labor rights. However, Chavez has also reportedly spoken out against illegal immigration, calling illegal aliens a threat to union workers.
  • The WNBA and its players union reached a deal in principle on a new collective bargaining agreement (CBA), keeping the league on track to tip off on May 8.
    • Did you know the season starts on May 8th? I didn’t either. That’s because no one cares.
    • The deal is expected to reflect the rapid growth over the last two seasons. The league exploded in popularity with the emergence of Caitlin Clark in 2024, along with some of the other members of her rookie class.
    • Players’ salaries are also expected to increase fourfold from last season. The average salary in the WNBA is $102K a year. That will pop the total to $400,000 per year.
  • Venezuela defeated the United States at the World Baseball Classic to win their first championship.

The SAVE Act

These two guys are idiots and if they can’t get a birth certificate or passport (which they are lying, they have both) they shouldn’t be in power.

These two can also make it easier to get all three by changing the laws, but they don’t.

Some things about the SAVE Act:

  • The SAVE Act is simple. It is only 24 pages long.
  • You are required to register to vote with either a federal ID (a REAL ID or passport) or birth certificate.
  • It is really easy and cheap to get all three!!
  • A REAL ID costs the same as a state ID, about $45.
  • A passport card costs about $30.
  • A birth certificate costs about $25.
  • State IDs can be used if they give the date and location of birth. Most states don’t do this.
  • Now, I’ll be a jerk. If one is too stupid to be able to get one of these forms of identification, they are to stupid to be voting.
  • The other thing the bill requires is that voter rolls be purged of immigrants (illegal and legal) and dead people.
    • In states like California, immigrants (legal or illegal) are “accidently” registered to vote when they get an ID or driver’s license.
    • Some states allow immigrants to vote in local or state elections (which we should ban). They automatically get registered in federal elections.
    • Dead people end up voting in election fraudulently.
  • I think voter rolls should be purged after every presidential election and you should have to register every four years.

Finally, is any of this convenient? Absolutely not. It shouldn’t be. It should take some effort to vote. We should also ban mail in voting, early voting, and voting machines. You should have to wait in line on election day and vote on paper. Like we did before the pandemic.

For 244 years, we have voted in person, on paper, on one day every two years on the first Tuesday of November and always had the results on election night. The more technology we’ve thrown into the process and the more options for convenience we’ve thrown out have made our elections less efficient and less trustworthy. We never had these discussions in any elections outside of the 2000 election.

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

Canada is fast approaching its 100,000th death from Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID), a grim milestone that puts it way ahead of every other nation.

Health Canada reported that 76,475 Canadians had died under MAID as of December 31, 2024. New cases were arriving at roughly 45 per day, with 2024 alone recording 16,499 deaths. Even if approvals have steadied in recent months, the government’s own trajectory suggests the 100,000th death could come in early June, weeks before the 10th anniversary of Bill C-14, which first legalized doctor-assisted suicide.

“This spring, we’re about to hit our 100,000th individual,” said Canadian anti-MAID activist Kelsi Sheren on a podcast with British rapper Nzube Udezue, known as Zuby, according to the National Post. Sheren has tracked the milestone closely, warning that the country is approaching a six-figure tally in assisted deaths.

Canada legalized MAID in 2016, years after the Netherlands and Belgium, which began allowing assisted suicide in 2002 and 2003, respectively. Unlike Belgium,  Canada does not yet permit assisted suicide for patients suffering solely from mental illness, a step planned for early 2027, but the pace of deaths isn’t slowing down.

Even as a later adopter, Canada’s MAID numbers have surged faster than any other jurisdiction. In 2020, assisted deaths jumped 36.8 percent from 5,461 to 7,451, then climbed another 34.8 percent to 9,842 the following year.  If trends continue, Canada could surpass the combined totals of every other country with legal euthanasia in a single year.

New Zealand, comparatively, has recorded roughly 1,000 deaths since 2021, Spain 697 in its first three years, and Colombia 692 between 2015 and 2023. In the US, state-level assisted suicide has existed since 1998, with total deaths reaching 5,329 across all states by 2022.

Even in Europe, long-standing euthanasia programs have produced smaller totals. Switzerland tallied 8,738 deaths over 20 years, Belgium 33,647 over 21 years. Only the Netherlands reports a higher share of assisted deaths relative to total mortality—5.8 percent versus 5.1 percent for Canada—but the larger Canadian population means more individual lives lost: 16,499 in 2024 alone, compared with 9,958 in the Netherlands.

You Couldn’t Hate the NBA Enough

The Atlanta Hawks are apparently making the most out of International Women’s Month by teaming up with a famous strip club as part of their promotional “Magic City Monday” game on March 16.

The NBA team put out a release that stated the “Magic City Monday” game will honor one of Atlanta’s “iconic cultural institutions” with special food and a halftime performance by Atlanta great, T.I.

“The Hawks have worked with Magic City to bring the ‘best of’ the phenomena for fans in attendance at the award-winning State Farm Arena,” the statement read.

“We doin’ this one for the city… Magic City,” T.I. said.

The famous Atlanta strip club has been around since the ’80s and is known for more than just its strippers. Magic City is famous for its lemon pepper wings, which will be featured at the “Magic City Monday” game in a few weeks.

“From the food to the music and the exclusive merchandise, we are excited to team up with Magic City to create an authentic, True to Atlanta-inspired game experience,” said Hawks Executive Vice President & Chief Marketing Officer Melissa Proctor.

The wings are apparently so good that during the NBA bubble season in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic, former Los Angeles Clippers guard Lou Williams broke protocol to visit Magic City for the wings and was forced to miss games because of the mandatory 10-day quarantine the league required.

Not all NBA players are excited for this collab during a month that’s meant to celebrate women’s accomplishments. San Antonio Spurs center Luke Kornet penned an article asking Atlanta to cancel “Magic City Monday” theme night because he said the promotion doesn’t protect or esteem women and would reflect poorly on the NBA.

“The NBA should desire to protect and esteem women, many of whom work diligently every day to make this the best basketball league in the world,” Kornett wrote. “We should promote an atmosphere that is protective and respectful of the daughters, wives, sisters, mothers, and partners that we know and love.”

More than 800,000 customers in the United States, as far west as New Mexico, were without electricity, and over 10,000 flights were canceled on Sunday ahead of a monster winter storm that threatened to paralyze eastern states with heavy snowfall.

Forecasters said snow, sleet, freezing rain, and dangerously frigid temperatures would sweep the eastern two-thirds of the nation on Sunday and into the week.

The number of power outages continued to rise. As of 10:18 a.m. EST (1518 GMT) on Sunday, more than 800,000 U.S. customers were without electricity, according to PowerOutage.us, with at least 300,000 in Tennessee and over 100,000 each in Mississippi, Texas, and Louisiana. Other states affected included Kentucky, Georgia, North Carolina, and Alabama.

The Department of Energy on Saturday issued an emergency order authorizing the Electric Reliability Council of Texas to deploy backup generation resources at data centers and other major facilities, aiming to limit blackouts in the state.

On Sunday, the DOE issued an emergency order to authorize grid operator PJM Interconnection to run “specified resources” in the mid-Atlantic region, regardless of limits due to state laws or environmental permits.

The National Weather Service warned of an unusually expansive and long-duration winter storm that would bring widespread, heavy ice accumulation in the Southeast, where “crippling to locally catastrophic impacts” can be expected.

Weather service forecasters predicted record cold temperatures and dangerously cold wind chills descending further into the Great Plains region by Monday.

More than 10,100 U.S. flights scheduled for Sunday were canceled, according to flight tracking website FlightAware. Over 4,000 flights were canceled on Saturday.

Major U.S. airlines warned passengers to stay alert for abrupt flight changes and cancellations.

Federal officials say violent unrest in Minneapolis directly derailed an immigration arrest, leaving a suspect with a serious criminal history at large while a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent was permanently maimed after a protester bit off part of his finger.

U.S. Border Patrol Commander at Large Greg Bovino said during a press conference on Sunday that Border Patrol and ICE agents were forced to abandon a targeted operation after crowds interfered, assaulted officers and turned the scene chaotic.

As a result, he said, the suspect escaped custody – a failure he blamed solely on the decisions made by politicians, activists and those who confronted law enforcement officials.

“This individual is still roaming the streets today,” Bovino said. “This individual walks the streets today because of those choices made by politicians and those, perhaps, weaker-minded constituents that chose to follow directions of those politicians. Sad state of affairs.”

The unrest erupted after a Border Patrol agent fatally shot a man during the same enforcement operation, an incident that officials said set off the violent clashes.

Federal officials identified the man fatally shot by a Border Patrol agent in Minneapolis on Saturday as Alex Jeffrey Pretti, a member of the American Federation of Government Employees. Pretti, 37, lived in Minneapolis and worked as an intensive care unit nurse at a U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs hospital.

Authorities said Pretti was shot during an early-morning immigration enforcement operation targeting Jose Huerta-Chuma, an illegal immigrant with a criminal history that includes domestic assault involving intentional bodily harm, disorderly conduct and driving without a valid license. According to Homeland Security officials, Pretti approached Border Patrol agents while armed with a 9 mm pistol and “violently resisted” when agents attempted to disarm him.

One of the key negotiators who helped end the last government shutdown won’t support a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) funding bill, further adding to the likelihood of another closure. 

Sen. Angus King, I-Maine, told CBS’ Face the Nation on Sunday that he could not support the current, six-bill funding package as is because it included the DHS funding bill. King was a pivotal figure in ending the last shutdown, and was one of only eight Senate Democratic caucus members to join Republicans to end it. 

King, like other members of the Senate Democratic caucus, is infuriated by the death of Alex Pretti, the 37-year-old nurse who was shot dead by a border patrol agent in Minneapolis on Saturday. 

Congressional Democrats have railed against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents entering Minnesota and elsewhere, but begrudgingly agreed to support the DHS bill until the chaos over the weekend unfolded.

“I hate shutdowns,” King said. “I’m one of the people that helped negotiate the solution to the last — the end of the last shutdown, but I can’t vote for a bill that includes ICE funding under the circumstances.” 

King’s resistance to the package comes after Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., announced that Senate Democrats would not support the legislation, increasing the odds of a partial government shutdown by the end of the week.

Virginia Democrats have introduced legislation that would significantly raise income and investment taxes, putting the Commonwealth on track to become the highest-taxed state in the nation. These proposals, which include new top tax brackets and higher levies on investment income, would push Virginia’s effective income tax rate above California’s.

Democrats introduced the legislation shortly after consolidating power in Richmond, creating higher income tax brackets and expanding taxes on capital gains and other investment income. If lawmakers enact the bills, the changes would raise Virginia’s top effective income tax rate to roughly 13.8%, surpassing all other states.

Lawmakers backing the measures argue the tax hikes are necessary to fund public priorities and stabilize state finances. Virginia Delegate Kelly Convirs-Fowler (D-VA) said the proposals would require “millionaires [to] pay their fair share of taxes,” arguing the revenue would help “buffer” Virginians from broader economic pressures. Left-wing policy group The Commonwealth Institute, one of the many groups behind this proposed plan, said a “Fair Share tax” could raise more than $1 billion annually for education, housing, and other public services.

Democrats have positioned the tax proposals as part of a broader affordability agenda. Governor Abigail Spanberger (D-VA) has said her administration will prioritize lowering health care, housing, and energy costs. She campaigned on what she called an agenda to build a more “Affordable Virginia.”

Other things this broad has signed into law on day one:

  • She ended cooperation with ICE and DHS.
  • She ended mandatory sentencing. Those bills included a proposal to eliminate mandatory minimum sentencing for rape, manslaughter, assaulting a law enforcement officer, possession and distribution of child pornography, and other repeat violent felonies. Democrats also removed the mandatory minimum five-day sentence for first time DUI offenders in the state.
  • She signed a bill aimed at requiring government contracts under $100,000 go to minority and women-owned businesses, leading some critics to argue the move is discriminatory against White men.
  • The last step in a series of actions needed to take place to enshrine abortion rights in Virginia’s state Constitution was also just passed by the Democratic Party-led state Senate. If approved by voters in November, the constitutional amendment would permit abortion in the first and second trimesters, while letting Virginia regulate abortion in the third trimester for various reasons.
