As New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani unveils his new city-run grocery stores, his administration is taking steps to prevent some shoppers from taking advantage of the program — by requiring identification. 

“So our RFP [Request for Proposal] makes it very clear that this is a program for New Yorkers to be able to put food on the table, not a program for people to be able to make a quick buck through reselling,” said Mamdani, answering a question on how his administration would safeguard the grocery stores.

Jeanny Pak, the interim president and CEO of the NYC Economic Development Corporation, revealed that the mayor’s office would be issuing a form of identification for New Yorkers to be able to shop in the government stores.

“We are looking to make sure that we target New Yorkers whether it be a sort of library card-esque thing and also we manage who’s buying and that it is focused on everyday New Yorkers,” Pak said.

According to proposals, the government grocery store operators will create free access cards that will help ensure that New Yorkers are not abusing the program. Shoppers without a card would not be prohibited from entering the store, but they would not be allowed to make any purchases without the ID.

Conservatives lit up on Thursday night in response to a report claiming that Maine Democratic Senate candidate Troy Jackson, who recently replaced disgraced candidate Graham Platner on the ballot, fathered two children with his second cousin and high school sweetheart.

The report, from Maine Wire editor-in-chief Steve Robinson, found that Jackson shares two adult sons with a woman named Lana Pelletier, his second cousin with whom he shares the same great-grandparents.

The report pointed out that the relationship is not uncommon in northern rural Maine, where Jackson is from, and that it is not illegal, but many on social media reacted with shock and criticism.

“Can’t wait for Democrats to defend cousin marriage!,” Rep. Nancy Mace, R-S.C., posted on X.

Do You Need Another Example?

According to the California Post:

A transitioning son accused of killing his mother inside a Laguna Beach home bludgeoned her to death with a hammer — with the alleged murderer’s grandmother discovering the bloody aftermath, authorities said.

Police responded to the rental home of Safford James Wolfson, 36, around 11 a.m. on July 20 after Wolfson’s grandma entered the residence and found blood-spattered floors and smashed furniture, prosecutors revealed.

Investigators said Wolfson’s grandmother first found Wolfson lying on the floor covered in blood before discovering the body of Angela Caprioli, 61, in a bedroom with severe blunt-force injuries to her head and face.

Wolfson’s grandmother called 911, with cops and medics arriving and taking Wolfson to the hospital with self-inflicted injuries to his neck.

Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer said Wolfson faces murder charges as well as a felony enhancement for using a deadly weapon.

He said the house where the alleged slaying occurred has been a longstanding eyesore in the neighborhood due to vegetation overgrowth. Police have frequently been called to the address over the years, he added. 

Caprioli showed up at the address about a week before the killing in a red pickup truck loaded with boxes and flatscreens, Pettit said.

Wolfson’s strnge online presence drew attention as investigators probed the alleged homicide.

An X account bearing Wolfson’s name says the owner is a “trans girl looking for fun in LA,” and a TikTok account associated with the suspect includes several videos showing Wolfson dancing in dresses, miniskirts, crop tops and underwear.

Wolfson’s LinkedIn profile says he co-founded Kevin’s House LLC, a Southern California dual-diagnosis sober living and assisted adult care facility that provides services for people facing mental health challenges.

Caprioli described herself as the founder of Kevin’s House on her Facebook profile. Her account features a post showing her posing with Wolfson as the two smile together.

A liberal-led federal appeals court handed President Donald Trump two immigration victories Wednesday, reversing separate district court orders that had delayed the termination of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for migrants from South Sudan and Ethiopia.

The judgments from the First Circuit Court of Appeals come after U.S. District Judges Brian Murphy and Patti Saris issued back-to-back orders temporarily blocking the Trump administration’s termination of TPS for Ethiopia and South Sudan, respectively, late last week. The rulings drew sharp criticism from legal experts and Trump administration officials, who called the judges “rogue” and argued their decisions defied the Supreme Court.

The three-judge First Circuit panel consisted of Judges Julie Rikelman and Seth Aframe, both appointed by President Joe Biden, and Judge Joshua Dunlap, who was appointed by President Donald Trump.

In nearly identical rulings, the majority liberal panel found that the lower court judges’ orders conflicted with the Supreme Court’s decision in Mullin v. Doe, which held that courts cannot block TPS terminations based on non-constitutional claims.

“Mullin held that ‘the TPS statute’s judicial-review bar applies to all non-constitutional claims’ challenging the Secretary of Homeland Security’s determination with respect to the termination of a TPS designation,” the judges wrote.

Iowa Solicitor General Eric Wessan told Fox News Digital that the First Circuit correctly applied the precedent established by the Supreme Court.

An $18,000-a-summer Maine sleepaway camp chartered private jets to ferry campers and their parents to the wilderness retreat.

But they might have been better off rounding up some yellow buses and a very thick book of singalong songs for the ride to the far north east — because Page Six has learned that the camps are now suing the air company for allegedly failing to provide the planes.

Camp Laurel — which is on the banks of Echo Lake in the Belgrade Lakes region of the Pinetree State — and its parent company, Coastal Camps Inc., filed suit against White Plains Aviation Partners, on Monday claiming that the firm owes it at least $355,000 for alleged  “breach of contract, negligent supervision [and] unjust enrichment.”

Court papers reviewed by Page Six show the camp alleges the company failed to honor its agreements with the camp, and didn’t return the money after the flights fell through.

It seems that private flights have increasingly become just another line item on the summer budget for wealthy families.

According to the Daily Wire:

A non-English-speaking Ukrainian migrant killed two people while driving a semi-truck in Alabama after becoming distracted by his phone. Now, he’s getting off with a slap on the wrist.

Andrii Dmyterko recently took a plea deal, pleading guilty to two misdemeanor counts of criminally negligent homicide, while prosecutors dismissed two felony charges of homicide by vehicle, Fox 10 reported. He received a sentence of two years in Clarke County jail and was credited for 430 days, meaning he will need to serve less than a year behind bars.

While behind the wheel of an 18-wheeler on May 6, 2025, Dmyterko crashed into four vehicles stopped at a red light, resulting in the deaths of two people. Dmyterko didn’t stop until his truck was roughly the length of two football fields from the crash scene.

The victims of the crash were later identified as Woodie Earl Beck III, 53, and Ashley Marie Springer McDonald, 37, according to AL.com.

In an effort to ensure the Ukrainian national stays locked up, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) lodged a detainer with local authorities in Alabama requesting that they hand him over upon his eventual release.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said the Biden administration let Dmyterko into the country in 2024 through its humanitarian parole program for Ukraine.

German police shot and killed a Muslim man who previously tried to join the Islamic State after he rammed a vehicle into Berlin’s Pride festival on Saturday and then attacked bystanders with a machete, leaving one person dead and several others injured.

Die Zeit, a national German newspaper, reported that 21-year-old Abdul Ballout was shot and killed by police at a complex in Spandau, one of Berlin’s largest boroughs. The Associated Press also confirmed the report a short time later.

Police launched a massive manhunt for Ballout, who police say deliberately drove a white van into Berlin’s Tiergarten park around 10 p.m., killing one woman and injuring at least 29 others before attacking festivalgoers with what authorities said may have been a machete. Ballout is said to have fled the “horrific scene” on foot. German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt connected the attack to radical Islamist ideology.

Of course, people did not blame Islam for the attack. They blamed the system, colonialism, the truck, and, of course, white men. Most of the lame excuses why an Islamic terrorist killed gay people were in German, but you could count on TikTok to have someone blame white men. So here it is:

  • A knife-wielding man injured three women, including a pregnant woman, during a stabbing spree in central Paris, reportedly shouting that Allah had ordered him to do it.
  • A man was arrested for stabbing a Jew and an Asian with a screw driver in New York. Of course, he yelled “Allu Akbar” which means it’s a complete mystery to the media why he did it.
  • In Canada, two Jewish bakeries were shot at in Toronto. No suspect has been arrested, but we can imagine who will be caught.

The Trump administration has moved to shorten the time allotted for foreign journalists on visas in the US, taking the time they are allowed to stay on a visa from five years to just 240 days. For reporters from China, that number is even smaller at just 90 days for time allowed on a given visa.

How about not letting Chinese reporters into the country at all? It is state media, fo f- them.

Why does any reporter need 240 days (or even 90 days) in this country?

The new rules announced by the Department of Homeland Security will do away with the older “duration of status” system, which allowed foreign journalists to stay in the US as long as they meet eligibility requirements. That will be replaced with a fixed visa duration system, but visas can also be extended. The shorter rule of 90 days for Chinese journalists could add more tension to the relationship between the US and China.

Although Chinese journalists can only come for 90 days on their visa, the “special administrative regions” of Hong Kong or Macao can stay longer. The rule is set to take effect after it has been on the Federal Register for 60 days.

Here is the lawyer speak. Reading this stuff, suddenly this doesn’t look like this is as big a deal as the headline makes it out.

The move from the Trump administration comes as the White House has tightened immigration since Trump took office in 2025. The group “Reporters with Borders” was outraged with the decision, and said in a statement, “We are outraged that the Trump administration has cruelly limited the duration of visas for foreign journalists from a period of up to five years to a fixed eight months.”

“This change destroys international journalists’ ability to report from the U.S. and makes it extremely difficult for international outlets to operate here at all,” the statement added. “The relentless cycle of visa renewals restricts press freedom, as journalists will feel compelled to avoid drawing the administration’s ire, lest their applications be rejected.”

You know, I don’t give a crap what the foreign press thinks. They already hate us. Let’s give them more reason to hate us.

I do ‘t think this goes far enough. We need to severely limit foreign visas period, not just put restrictions on them.

  • Kaitlyn E. Tracey, 33, allegedly approached a group of teens while recording them on her cellphone before confronting them on the Point Pleasant Beach boardwalk during the Fourth of July holiday weekend.
    • A Canadian woman living in New Jersey was charged and later transferred to federal ICE custody after allegedly attacking a teenager on a boardwalk over pants bearing “Trump” and “ICE” messaging.
    • Tracey, a Canadian national who entered the U.S. on a passport in 2024, then allegedly struck one of the girls and recorded the confrontation, according to court documents reported by NJ.com.
  • Gov. Kathy Hochul slammed the brakes on New York’s data center boom Tuesday, handing China a gift-wrapped win in the global tech arms race.
    • A report stated she would sign an executive order that freezes state permitting for massive AI server farms. It halts new hyperscale data center approvals and orders state regulators to establish rules on energy use, water consumption, and other environmental impacts before any more projects move forward. Hochul framed it as consumer protection, saying she couldn’t sit by while server farms threaten to increase utility bills and drain New York’s water supply.

Some Taco Bell locations have temporarily stopped serving certain fresh ingredients amid a nationwide rise of cyclosporiasis cases, according to multiple reports, including People and Allrecipes. 

The reported menu changes come as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said on Friday, July 10, that it has received 843 confirmed domestic cases of cyclosporiasis across 31 states. 

The illness is caused by the microscopic Cyclospora parasite. The CDC said 86 people have been hospitalized, and no deaths have been reported.

People reported that some Taco Bell locations, including some in Metro Detroit, posted signs saying lettuce, pico de gallo, guacamole, and cilantro onion were unavailable.

Allrecipes reported that a paper sign at a Taco Bell drive-thru read, “We are currently unable to sell Lettuce, Cilantro, Onion, Pico de Gallo, and Guacamole due to a nationwide recall.” The image was posted by a Reddit user from Michigan.

Allrecipes also reported that neither the FDA nor USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service had issued recalls for those specific items. The outlet said it was unclear whether the ingredients were part of an internal recall by Taco Bell’s supplier.

I Smell a Nobel Prize in His Future!

According to the California Post:

Federal agents descended on the Irvine home of a teenager whose alleged science experiments sparked hazmat crews to swarm the residence over complaints of a strong chemical smell Wednesday.

Several blue tens and dozens of agents — from the FBI, Department of Justice, Environmental Protection Agency and Irvine Police Department — were spotted in the gated community as they investigated the home of 18-year-old Amalvin Fritz.

A judicial search warrant was being served at the location, according to the US Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California. It’s currently unclear what was seized from the home.

It’s the second time in two days agents were at the home, as FBI officials, hazardous material crews and the bomb squad were all at the property Tuesday after neighbors spotted three strange industrial barrels and reported a strange chemical odor.

The three barrels were allegedly empty and previously contained chemicals but were not confiscated during February’s investigation, according to CJ Ray, the family’s attorney.

Chemical mixtures along with formulas written on a whiteboard were discovered inside home, which prompted the FBI to bring in experts to investigate further.

No arrests were made in the February search.

Sacramento residents are bracing for tight supervision of what they throw in their trash as Gov. Gavin Newsom’s mandates require the city to lay invasive eyes on them.

Bin inspections are set to be deployed this month due to SB 1383, a law that requires local governments to take steps to reduce methane emissions caused by short-lived climate pollutants.

One of the key goals of the initiative is to see if homeowners are sorting their organic waste properly. City officials say they caught many sorting their trash into the wrong bin.

No fines will be issued, but residents will receive unsolicited feedback via a tag city workers place. Workers will wear high-visibility vests and badges as they peer through residents’ garbage.

Why Are There So Many Fires?

San Diego is forging ahead with plans for a sprawling new community featuring more than 5,100 affordable homes — despite fierce pushback from private landowners who warn the rezoning could slash the value of their property.

The massive Southwest Village development in Otay Mesa will span nearly 490 acres, most of it city-owned, and be built by Tri Pointe Homes.

The City Council has already signed off on the ambitious project, which will also include market-rate homes, a school, parks, 175,000 square feet of retail space and more than 200 acres of open space, according to project documents.

The proposal has received heat from nearby landowners, who say they were largely shut out of the planning process and denied a meaningful chance to weigh in before the project advanced.

The development would also require portions of the area to be rezoned because it overlaps with protected habitat. Tri Pointe is now working with federal wildlife officials to determine how the massive housing project can move forward without violating environmental laws, NBC San Diego reported.

Landowners are terrified that the city’s new lines on the map will kill future opportunities on their own turf. But supporters of the plan argue it would add housing units that San Diego very much needs.

Los Angeles City Council members earning nearly a quarter of a million dollars per year want to only meet one day per week as the city faces growing crises.

The council — whose base salaries start at $245,255 and can climb as high as $270,389 — voted 12–0 on June 30 in favor of putting on the November ballot a measure slashing the City Charter’s minimum requirement.

One member of the 15-member council, Monica Rodriguez, walked out in protest, while two others were absent for the vote.

One of those pushing the change, Katy Yaroslavsky, moaned she was always working — whether it was in City Hall, in her district or “doing dishes and vacuuming at home.”

But critics were quick to leap on the proposal. Councilwoman Rodriguez claimed her fellow members were just being lazy and saying it will be hated by the public.

The idea surfaced in early 2024, when Councilwoman Eunisses Hernandez suggested scaling back to one meeting a week and pointed to the LA County Board of Supervisors, which meets regularly on Tuesdays, as a possible model.

Senate Bill 54 is now entering its first phase of implementation, with companies expected to receive their first bills as early as next month, reported SFGATE.

The measure aims to reduce landfill waste by making manufacturers financially responsible for the packaging they sell after it is thrown away.

It charges companies impact fees on products they sell while also requiring them to phase out packaging that cannot be adequately reused, recycled or composted.

The dairy industry says it stands to be among the hardest hit because many of its products rely on packaging that does not currently meet the measure’s requirements.

CalRecycle, however, estimates the impact will be far smaller, projecting households will pay between $57 and $190 more annually based on data from the California Department of Finance.

Supporters say those added costs are outweighed by shifting the financial burden of packaging waste from taxpayers to the companies that produce it.

According to the New York Post:

A new Federal Reserve working paper found the record surge in illegal immigration during the Biden administration triggered higher home prices and rents.

The findings arrive as immigration remains a polarizing political issue. Republicans argue former President Joe Biden’s border policies strained housing and public resources, while Democrats say immigration helped ease labor shortages and supported economic growth.

The paper, published by the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, combines immigration court records with government administrative data to measure how the unprecedented wave of illegal immigration between 2021 and 2024 affected local labor and housing markets.

The authors caution the study is a preliminary draft circulated for professional comment and does not necessarily reflect the views of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas or the Federal Reserve System.

A Haitian illegal alien who was issued a Massachusetts Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) has been arrested after allegedly causing a semi-truck crash that killed a veteran Pennsylvania State Trooper, prompting US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to lodge an immigration detainer against him.

Michael Bon, a Haitian national, was arrested following the July 1 crash in Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania. Authorities allege Bon’s tractor-trailer struck Trooper Michael Pahira, who was inspecting another commercial vehicle along I-81 South. Pahira, a nearly 20-year veteran of the Pennsylvania State Police, later died from his injuries.

Bon has been charged with vehicular homicide and involuntary manslaughter. ICE lodged a detainer one day after his arrest, requesting that Pennsylvania authorities notify the agency before any potential release from custody.

According to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Bon entered the United States after being released by the Biden administration in July 2024. He later applied for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) in October 2024, but DHS said that application “was never granted.” Despite that, Bon obtained a Massachusetts-issued Commercial Driver’s License, a fact DHS highlighted in announcing the immigration detainer.

In the face of shootings over Independence Day weekend, Raleigh Mayor Janet Cowell has considered imposing a curfew for minors within city limits after several fights, illegal fireworks, and nine shootings rocked North Carolina’s capital. Cowell, who was elected mayor in 2024 to lead the city of more than 500,000 and ran on housing affordability and public safety, said the city needs accountability, Fox News reports. 

“As Mayor, I am grateful for the actions of the Raleigh Police officers in response to the situations of juvenile violence across the City on the night of July 4 and the morning of July 5,” the Cowell said. “Clearly, Raleigh is not exempt from the incidents of youth violence that are occurring across the country. We need to talk with the youth, their parents, schools, and the broader community to understand the root causes and to better coordinate strategies. One approach may be a youth curfew for those 17 years and under, which other cities in North Carolina have implemented. City leadership is exploring many approaches that we will discuss at tomorrow’s Council meeting.”

Raleigh Police said about 5,000 teenagers gathered in Brier Creek and another 5,000 gathered in Glenwood South, with roughly half of those in attendance coming from outside the city. Officers first responded around 10:05 p.m. Saturday to reports of a fight near a movie theater and surrounding businesses during what police described as a social media-organized “teen takeover.” The large fight was followed by gunfire, leaving one adult injured by a gunshot and another hurt by shattered glass. Police detained a juvenile who was found with a firearm, though investigators do not believe the teen was one of the shooters.

Additional violence unfolded throughout the night. Around 1:35 a.m. Sunday, officers responded to multiple shootings that left six people wounded, all of whom are expected to survive. About three hours later, at approximately 4:30 a.m., two more people were shot following a fight at a gas station. Both suffered non-life-threatening injuries. No arrests have been announced, and all of the shootings remain under investigation.

In a post on X Monday, Cowell described the teen takeovers as a “disturbing national trend” and thanked the Raleigh Police Department for restoring order, adding that city leaders and the broader community have work ahead to engage with young people and prevent similar incidents in the future.

Gentle Parenting Doesn’t Work

According to the New York Post:

A pregnant city special-ed teacher was violently kicked in the stomach by one of her students — then fired by officials who blamed her for the terrifying outburst, a shocking lawsuit claims. 

Then-kindergarten teacher Lauren Vitale, 31, was six months pregnant when she was attacked in January by one of her pupils, who has a documented history of violence, according to her Manhattan Supreme Court suit.

The special-needs kindergartner had been placed in the classroom at Staten Island’s PS 84 without giving Vitale any advance warning of her violent past — part of a troubling pattern by the adminstration of targeting the teacher, the suit says.

The child ended up spitting in Vitale’s face and kicking her in her pregnant belly — which resulted in the mom-to-be suffering from bleeding, low fetal movement and high blood pressure, according to court papers.

But instead of supporting Vitale over the assault, the school’s principal immediately blamed her for it, the lawsuit alleges.

Vitale, whose daughter is now 2 months old, said the alleged horrific experience was the climax of a years-long pattern of discrimination, hostile work environment and retaliation by education bosses against her.

Later in the article:

She said in her suit that she then felt especially targeted in early 2024 after she filed a union complaint over the placement of a different dangerous student in her classroom.

The child bit her and struck her with a curtain rod, Vitale’s lawsuit says.

In response to Vitale’s complaint, the principal called her to his office, labeled her a “whistleblower” and warned that she had “opened Pandora’s box,” court documents allege.

Then this past September, when Vitale was eight weeks pregnant, she privately shared her good news about the baby with the school’s guidance counselor — also a union rep — who she considered a friend, her suit says..

But the news was immediately leaked to the principal, who cornered her in her classroom and “badgered” her into confirming it minutes later, Vitale says in her suit. 

She was immediately slapped with a punitive Teacher Improvement Plan, the lawsuit claims.

NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s wife Rama Duwaji ditched America’s 250th anniversary, jetting off this week for an Islamic “spiritual wellness” retreat on the Spanish resort island of Mallorca ahead of the patriotic celebration, The Post has learned.

The Dallas-raised, Dubai-educated, Syrian-American artist – who has a long history of bashing the US — was spotted at Newark International Airport on Monday, boarding an eight-hour flight to Palma, Mallorca’s capital city in the Western Mediterranean.

She was heading to a sold-out retreat run by The Women’s Sanctuary. The 29-year-old illustrator and ceramist is the for-profit’s “artist in residence” and among the gathering’s hosts.

The “Plants Of The Quran” retreat costs $3,400 in US dollars for guests to attend. It began Wednesday and runs through Monday, and revolves around sacred flora mentioned in Islamic texts through art, botanical workshops, and spiritual reflection, according to the group’s website.

A Somalian flag that was raised outside of Buffalo’s City Hall to commemorate Somali Independence Day was stolen in an overnight heist, the city’s leftist mayor decried.

“The City of Buffalo’s flagpole in Niagara Square sustained damage after unknown vandals broke the access panel, cut the cable, and removed the Somali flag during the overnight hours of Wednesday, July 1,” Mayor Sean Ryan wrote on Facebook.

Ryan said the Buffalo Police Department was investigating the alleged vandalism after the city approved non-profit HEAL International to raise the white star, blue flag on July 1.

“The flag had been raised by an organization called Heal International in honor of Somalian Independence Day. Heal International has been raising the Somali flag at Niagara Square for at least the last four years,” Ryan said.

The mayor’s office shared that the “public use” flagpoles have flown banners of several countries and territories over the years, including Ukraine, Greece, Ireland, Puerto Rico, Italy and Bangladesh.

You Knew This Was Coming

According to the Daily Wire:

As America heads into the Fourth of July weekend marking America’s 250th birthday, the city hall of Columbus, Ohio, is celebrating differently.Columbus is hoisting the flag of Somalia, a foreign government, on Wednesday and celebrating its independence, according to a government department’s social media feed.“Happy Somali Independence Day! 💙 As we celebrate the unification of the Trust Territory of Somaliland and the State of Somaliland into the Somali Republic in 1960, City Hall will be raising the flag of Somalia,” the city’s Parks and Rec department said on social media. Praising Somalia was apparently so important to the department that it was its first post on X, formerly Twitter, since April 2019.

The department deleted the post moments after The Daily Wire asked Parks and Rec and City Hall about it. Neither department immediately replied to questions.

Columbus City Hall’s X account has celebrated Juneteenth and Pride Month, but said nothing about America’s 250th. In June 2023, the council passed a resolution to fly Somalia’s flag. In June 2025, it passed a resolution “To Recognize and Celebrate July 1st as Somali Independence Day in the City of Columbus.”

Columbus is home to the second-largest concentration of Somalis in the United States after Minnesota. The Daily Wire spent time in Columbus after Medicaid records showed some of the most flagrant red flags in the country. Those home-health firms turned out to be run largely by Somalis, to the point where one man said it was racist to ask about Medicaid spending because it was so closely intertwined with Somali identity.

Ohio’s Medicaid spending has doubled over the last decade, leading to a financial crisis.

Let’s be clear:

  • Somali is a shit hole.
  • Their independence led to perpetual civil war and genocide.
  • It’s a country run by warlords.
  • It’s a country of criminals and pirates.
  • The average IQ in Somalia is 61.
  • They have never given humanity anything.

A federal appeals court revived a lawsuit brought by two former Alaska Airlines flight attendants who say they were fired after expressing religious objections to the airline’s support for the Equality Act, allowing their religious discrimination claims to proceed.

The Ninth Circuit ruled Wednesday there is sufficient evidence for a jury to determine whether Lacey Smith and Marli Brown were fired because of their religious beliefs, reviving the lawsuit they filed against the airline.

In early 2021, Alaska Airlines said it would support the proposed Equality Act on an online internal employee network.

The Equality Act, which was introduced by then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., sought to add sexual orientation and gender identity as protected classes in employment, housing, and other capacities under federal civil rights law. It passed the House in February 2021.

The airline asked employees to comment in an online forum for employees, and Smith asked a question, writing, “As a company, do you think it’s possible to regulate morality?”

In the same forum, Brown shared a comment conveying her sincere religious beliefs that the Equality Act would adversely affect women, girls, and people of faith.

Following their comments on the online forum, Smith and Brown were investigated and fired from their jobs, with Alaska Airlines saying that the comments from Smith and Brown were “discriminatory,” “hateful” and “offensive.”

Former Vice President Kamala Harris is courting New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani and other prominent left-wing figures as she lays the groundwork for a possible 2028 presidential campaign, according to a new report.

Axios reported Wednesday that Harris privately called Mamdani last week to discuss the future of the Democratic Party and plans to continue the conversation in future meetings.

The call came just days after several democratic socialist candidates backed by Mamdani defeated incumbent Democrats in New York City congressional primaries, further cementing the mayor’s growing influence on the party’s left flank.

The outreach is part of a broader effort by Harris to repair and strengthen ties with far-left Democrats who were often skeptical of her during the 2024 presidential campaign. Harris has also held private meetings with progressive Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), as well as pro-Palestinian activists who sharply criticized the Biden-Harris administration’s handling of the Israel-Hamas conflict.

Among those Harris has met with is Abbas Alawieh, a co-founder of the Uncommitted Movement, a campaign that emerged during the 2024 Democratic primary to protest President Joe Biden’s support for Israel. Alawieh added that Harris initiated months of private conversations before requesting a recent meeting in Detroit, where he reiterated his opposition to U.S. taxpayer dollars being used “to target civilians or destroy entire communities.”

During the 2024 campaign, the Uncommitted Movement unsuccessfully pushed Harris to allow a Palestinian American to address the Democratic National Convention. Many activists ultimately declined to endorse her after concluding she had not broken sufficiently with Biden’s Middle East policy.

Democratic Sacramento lawmakers, led by far-left senator Scott Wiener (D-CA), killed a bill that would have banned registered sex offenders from running for public office in California.

The legislation, AB 2753, would have expanded the list of felony convictions that disqualify people from running for elected office to include sexual assault and human trafficking. Current law covers felonies involving bribery (accepting, giving, or offering), embezzlement or theft of public funds, extortion, perjury, and conspiracy to commit any of those offenses.

On Tuesday, the State Senate’s Elections Committee rejected the proposal in a 2-1-2 vote, according to the local KCRA outlet. The push for the bill followed an attempt by registered sex offender Rene Campos to run for Fresno City Council. He pleaded no contest in 2018 to a misdemeanor charge of possessing child sexual abuse material, KCRA reported.

Voting yes were Democratic San Diego State Sen. Sabrina Cervantes and Republican State Sen. Steven Choi; the committee’s chairman, Democratic San Francisco State Sen. Scott Wiener, voted no, while two other Democrats abstained.

The proposal passed the State Assembly unanimously before reaching the State Senate, according to legislative records. 

Wiener, who is on track to replace former U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi in Congress, blocked the legislation. 

“There are a lot of people who go in the sex offender registry for lower-level offenses, who I don’t know that everyone would believe they should be banned from running for office if they want to. This is potentially a very dangerous road we’re going down to say that ‘minor crimes’ are going to ban you for life for running for office,” Wiener told local ABC10 outlet. 

“We live in a democracy where people get to run for office, including people who have a lot of flaws,” he added.

This Is Who They Support

Minnesota officials, including Democrat Gov. Tim Walz, last month pardoned an illegal immigrant who was previously convicted of sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl and who was slated to be deported.

With the recommendation of the Minnesota Clemency Review Commission (CRC), the Minnesota Board of Pardons — led by Walz, state Attorney General Keith Ellison and state Chief Justice Natalie Hudson — granted a pardon for Laos national Tou Lue Vang, 42, at its June 10 meeting, according to a letter informing Vang of the decision from Carli Stark, the executive director of the state CRC.

The pardon essentially gives Vang a clean slate.

Vang was convicted in 2006 of first-degree criminal sexual conduct. Between 2002 and 2006, he repeatedly sexually assaulted the girl.

At one point, he offered her $10 to keep quiet about the abuse, according to DHS.

He pleaded guilty to first-degree criminal sexual conduct in a plea deal that spared him from going to prison.

“Governor Tim Walz’s decision to pardon an illegal alien convicted child rapist so he can remain in our country is disgusting,” DHS Acting Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis said in a statement. “These are the criminal illegal aliens he and his Minnesota sanctuary politicians are protecting.”

Bis noted that Vang lost his legal status following his conviction.

When he was arrested on charges in 2005, Vang admitted to having sexual contact with the girl but blamed cultural norms in Thailand, according to the complaint obtained by the New York Times.

Episode 1221 – You Win Some, You Lose Some, I Guess

The Supreme Court has been busy. Let us take a look at the two major ruling released yesterday, especially the complete misread of what the XIV Amendment.

A Really Bad Ruling

According to the Daily Wire:

The U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday permanently blocked President Donald Trump’s executive order seeking to restrict birthright citizenship, dealing a significant blow to his immigration agenda and preventing a sweeping overhaul of who qualifies for U.S. citizenship.

In a landmark ruling authored by Chief Justice John Roberts, the Supreme Court held that children born in the United States to parents unlawfully or temporarily present are “subject to the jurisdiction” of the United States and are citizens at birth under the Fourteenth Amendment’s Citizenship Clause.

“Citizenship, then and now, was the right to have rights — to freely participate in our political community. The Framers of the Fourteenth Amendment extended that promise to ‘every free-born person in this land,’” Roberts wrote. “We keep that promise today.”

Justice Brett Kavanaugh concurred in part and dissented in part. He disagreed with the court’s holding that Trump’s executive order violated the Fourteenth Amendment to the Constitution. Instead, he argued that the order violated other federal statutes, saying only Congress can enact new exceptions to birthright citizenship for children born to illegal immigrants.

Justices Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito, and Neil Gorsuch dissented.

Clarence Thomas wrote in his Dissent:

“The court today takes the extraordinary step of holding facially unconstitutional the President’s Order excluding from citizenship the children of foreign temporary visitors and illegal aliens. In doing so, the court adds to the sad history of the Fourteenth Amendment, which was designed and understood to secure equal rights for the freed blacks but has instead been repurposed for political projects that the Reconstruction Congress did not support.”

Thomas argued that the 14th Amendment was designed to apply to freed slaves and their children, who owed no allegiances to foreign countries. 

“The same could not be said for the children of foreign temporary visitors. Foreign temporary visitors were attached to their home country, lacked similar bonds to this country, and would not be called upon in time of war. Americans, consistent with their settler ethos, believed that citizens were the people who called a place home.”

“I am not sure that today’s opinion will stand the test of time. The Citizenship Clause ‘added greatly to the dignity and glory of American citizenship. Today’s opinion devalues that citizenship.”

Samuel Alito also added to the dissent:

“As interpreted by the court today, the Fourteenth Amendment confers citizenship on virtually everyone who happens to be born in this country, including the children of ‘birth tourists,’ women who come here solely for the purpose of giving birth to a child and then promptly return home. Careful analysis of the text of the Fourteenth Amendment and the process that led to its adoption shows that it does not degrade the concept of United States citizenship in this way. Instead, the Fourteenth Amendment confers citizenship on only those children who, at birth, owe allegiance solely to this country.

“The court’s interpretation preserves a powerful incentive to enter or remain in this country illegally. Immigrants naturally prefer affluent countries where economic opportunities are available. Other than Canada, the United States will be the only affluent nation where birth alone is enough to establish citizenship.”

Response From the Right

The Supreme Court’s birthright citizenship decision is wrong, dangerous, and disastrous for American sovereignty and the American people. If we can’t fix it with ordinary legislation, then we must do what the Constitution commands in moments of national crisis: We must amend the Constitution and restore American citizenship. We must again put “We the People” first. The Supreme Court’s decision constitutionalizing unlimited birthright citizenship for the children of illegal aliens and temporarily present aliens is wrong—and disastrous for our sovereignty and the future of our republic. The decision exposes America to grave national security risks and threatens to erode the integrity of the core of American self-government: citizenship. Citizenship is more than paperwork issued by the government. It is more than a bureaucratic label that grants access to government programs. Citizenship is the covenantal bond between a nation and its people.

Here’s What I Think

Some things:

  • This is a complete disaster for the Supreme Court.
  • It is a complete misreading of the XIV Amendment.
  • Context matters. The writers of the XIV Amendment stated that aliens were not automatically citizens. Read the statement from above.
  • The Court stated that the legal status of the parents is irrelevant. That’s horse pucky. Diplomats who have a child while in the United States determine whether that kid is a citizen.
  • Entering the United States is illegal and shows that the do not regard themselves a “subject to the jurisdiction” of the United States.
  • Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito were right:
    • This devalues citizenship.
    • This opens the country to foreign actors that have the strategy of undermining the country through elections and politics.
    • It paves the way for birth tourism
  • Justice Kavanaugh was also right and wrong.
    • He was wrong in that the Constitution and the context were made very clear.
    • He’s right that Congress can definitely make laws that better define the amendment.
    • The question is would Congress make such a law.
  • The ruling judges were wrong.
    • They ignored what the words of the Constitution said.
    • They completely ignored why the amendment was written.
    • They are cowards.

At Least They Got This One Right

According to the Daily Wire:

The U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday ruled that states have the constitutional power to ban men from women’s sports, dealing another blow to the transgender movement. 

In a ruling authored by Justice Brett Kavanaugh and joined by the other conservative justices, the Supreme Court held that Title IX  allows schools to determine eligibility for women’s and girls’ sports teams based on biological sex. Liberal Justices Sonia Sotomayor, Elena Kagan, and Ketanji Brown Jackson agreed with parts of the majority opinion and dissented on other parts.

Justice Kavanaugh wrote:

“They may determine eligibility for women’s and girls’ sports based on biological sex. The Constitution and Title IX do not require an overhaul of women’s and girls’ sports throughout America.”

Clarence Thomas was a little more bitter about having to weigh in on this:

“Men and boys with gender dysphoria are not women or girls, even if they believe that they are. Sex is an immutable ‘biological’ characteristic.

“[I]t is binary; and ‘man’ and ‘woman,’ ‘boy’ and ‘girl,’ are the terms that correspond to adults and children of each sex,” he stressed. “To use language to obscure reality—to show ‘indifference regarding the truth’— is to lie to the public and cease to treat our fellow citizens ‘as equal[s].’“

“A man does not have a legal right to compete against women just because he believes that he is a woman. The class of people who claim transgender status could more accurately be described as people who are experiencing ‘gender dysphoria,’ which is not a ‘discrete group.’”

President Donald Trump shared previously unreported details about a downed U.S. Army Apache helicopter on Wednesday, including how the two pilots survived after an Iranian drone lodged in between them as they were flying.

Trump described the incident and rescue mission in an exclusive call with Fox News correspondent Trey Yingst. The U.S. Army Apache helicopter was shot down earlier this week when, according to the president, an Iranian drone struck the helicopter but failed to detonate, lodging itself between the two pilots as they flew at low altitude.

Flying a gunship with a live, burning drone embedded in the cockpit, the pilots faced the possibility of explosion at any moment. Trump said the cockpit filled with heat and fire before the crew managed to ditch the aircraft into the sea. The two pilots were subsequently rescued — in what Trump described as the first-ever rescue of its kind — by an unmanned sea drone.

After the Iranian drone attack, Trump warned Wednesday that he is nearing a decision to order strikes on Iranian power plants and bridges, signaling a sharp escalation in the ongoing military confrontation with Tehran amid stalled nuclear negotiations.

The drone boat was the Saronic Corsair, a 24-foot unmanned surface vessel used by the U.S. Navy’s Task Force 59. It was the first U.S. rescue carried out with an autonomous surface vessel, according to military reporting.

The Corsair was described as looking like a speedboat and was used to retrieve the Apache crew before they were lifted by helicopter to complete the rescue.

Metcalf’s parents delivered emotional statements, with his father stressing right and wrong over race, while the case sparked national debates on self-defense, youth violence, and racial dynamics, including unverified fundraising claims and celebrity comments.

A Sudanese man has been charged with attempted murder after a ‘knife attack’ in Belfast.

The 30-year-old, who has not yet been named by police, will appear at Belfast Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday. 

He has also been charged with possession of an article with blade or point in a public place and making threats to kill.

PSNI Chief Constable Jon Boutcher said the suspect is believed to have travelled from Sudan to Paris, and then from Paris to Dublin before taking a bus to Belfast in February 2023 – taking advantage of the Common Travel Area. 

There, he immediately claimed asylum, before he was given leave to remain in the UK in September 2023, lasting for five years.

The victim of the attack, a man aged in his 40s, remains in a serious condition in hospital receiving treatment for serious eye, face and back wounds.

Social media footage shows a man standing astride a bloodied victim holding a knife to his throat and his fist in the air. 

Heroic bystanders then intervene, with one man hitting the suspect with a hurling stick. Police said a kitchen knife was recovered from the scene on Kinnaird Avenue, in the north of Belfast. They do not believe the attack was terror related.

Seattle’s socialist mayor Katie Wilson is facing fierce blowback on social media after a 77-year-old man was seen on video being beaten by two individuals in a crime that was captured by closed-circuit television cameras, a tool that Wilson has denounced in the past as something that makes the community feel unsafe and “vulnerable.”

The elderly man was walking down the street in downtown Seattle last month when two men walking by him stopped, without any provocation, shoved him to the ground and beat him, KOMO News reported. 

Ahmed Abdullahi Osman, 29, was later arrested and charged with second-degree assault, and police are looking for the second suspect. Osman was reportedly booked into jail the night of the assault and then released back onto the streets before a bail hearing. 

Some things:

  • Trump is not going to take over the cameras.
  • You know, Trump is not going to be in office for long.
  • Do you remember when the Left demanded that police all have body cams?
  • Now we actually see what the police have to go through on a daily basis?
  • Now there’s outrage because a police shooting will have body cam footage released immediately and we know the shooting was justified.

  • I also want to ask, why are cameras racist? Why do they alienate the immigrants? Could it be because they capture the crimes of minorities and immigrants and maybe not all bad things happen because of white people?
  • The stats don’t lie, folks. Immigrants and minorities commit most of the crimes in the United States. We are seeing it right now.

Don’t Fix Anything

According to the New York Post:

Critics of California’s long-overdue high-speed rail project are aghast after statehouse Democrats pushed through legislation that would give the rail auditor the power to shield its reports from the public.

The bill, which passed the California Assembly on Monday and sits at the state Senate, lets the Inspector General do so if publication “would pose a substantial and articulable risk to the project or to state operations if publicly disclosed.”

The role of the Inspector General has gained even more prominence in light of new estimates that the total cost of the train has ballooned to $231 billion. The fantasy project, which broke ground in 2015, is far from finished.

Letting the Inspector General hide details, critics say, is the wrong move.

Insight is needed now more than ever after analysts raised red flags with the High-Speed Rail Authority’s new business plan.  A state analysts’ report warned of “several issues”, such as uncertain funding assumptions and shifting the project’s scope in violation of current state law.

If details are determined confidential, the bill would have the auditor only deliver the report to state officials overseeing the project.

The bill’s author, Assemblymember Lori Wilson (D), dismissed the criticism and said the bill actually improves transparency.

“Concerns were initially raised that this bill would keep information confidential. In fact, this bill does the exact opposite by requiring the inspector general to make its reports public, which is not required under current law,” she said Monday on the Assembly floor.

A federal judge appointed by former President Joe Biden cut an illegal immigrant murder suspect loose, according to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

Bryan Rafael Gomez is wanted in his home country of the Dominican Republic for murder, DHS said Thursday. Despite having an active warrant, U.S. District Court Judge Melissa R. DuBose ordered Gomez’s release from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention on Tuesday.

Gomez crossed the border illegally near Lukeville, Arizona, in 2022, DHS said. Border Patrol agents apprehended him at the time and subsequently released him into the country.

The Coordination of the Courts of Instruction of the National District of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, issued a criminal arrest warrant for Gomez for homicide on Jan. 24, 2023, according to DHS.

Officers with the Worcester Police Department arrested Gomez on April 4, 2026, for assault and battery, according to DHS. Local authorities honored an ICE detainer, handing Gomez over to federal immigration agents after he was released on $500 bail.

Gomez had filed a habeas petition, which is a legal challenge to his detention, and DuBose allowed for his release on “minimal release conditions,” according to Fox News.

The Department of Justice announced on Friday that it has readopted firing squads as a means to carry out federal death sentences. The DOJ said that the move was part of an effort to “restore its solemn duty to seek, obtain, and implement lawful capital sentences.”

A press release from the department stated, “Among the actions taken are readopting the lethal injection protocol utilized during the first Trump Administration, expanding the protocol to include additional manners of execution such as the firing squad, and streamlining internal processes to expedite death penalty cases. These steps are critical to deterring the most barbaric crimes, delivering justice for victims, and providing long-overdue closure to surviving loved ones.”

Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche said in a statement, “The prior administration failed in its duty to protect the American people by refusing to pursue and carry out the ultimate punishment against the most dangerous criminals, including terrorists, child murderers, and cop killers. Under President Trump’s leadership, the Department of Justice is once again enforcing the law and standing with victims.”

The announcement came alongside the release of a report titled “Restoring and Strengthening the Federal Death Penalty.” In the report, Blanche said that “despite federal prosecutors consistently seeking and defending capital sentences under the leadership of both political parties, the Department had not prioritized implementing them.”

The report stated that under the Biden administration, then Attorney General Merrick Garland “imposed a moratorium on federal executions, directed prosecutors not to seek death sentences, and dismantled the federal government’s capital punishment apparatus. He also recommended that President Biden commute the lawful death sentences of thirty-seven convicted murderers, and he did so without fully considering the views of the victims’ families, the communities that endured these crimes, or the prosecutors who tried these cases. These actions inflicted untold damage on countless lives and, ultimately, on the public’s confidence in the rule of law itself.”
