Episode 993 – Justice Is Still On Life Support

As if the Middle East needed some more instability, the Syrian government has fallen and has been taken over by a terrorist group.

The judge in the Danial Penny trial is bending over backwards to get Penny convicted. It doesn’t work.

And did you know there was a school shooting last week in California? Of course you didn’t. And there was a reason why.

This One is On Obama

According to the Daily Wire:

President-elect Donald Trump responded to the downfall of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s regime on Sunday, suggesting that Russia lost a key ally in the Middle East because of its war with Ukraine.

Assad reportedly fled Syria over the weekend as terrorist rebel forces took over the capital of Damascus. Assad’s regime fell after rebel forces led by the terror group Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) (which is led by , Abu Mohammad al-Jolani) blitzed across the country in a sudden resurgence of fighting in Syria’s civil war, largely stalled in recent years.

“Assad is gone. He has fled his country. His protector, Russia, Russia, Russia, led by Vladimir Putin, was not interested in protecting him any longer,” Trump wrote. “There was no reason for Russia to be there in the first place. They lost all interest in Syria because of Ukraine, where close to 600,000 Russian soldiers lay wounded or dead, in a war that should never have started, and could go on forever.”

“Russia and Iran are in a weakened state right now, one because of Ukraine and a bad economy, the other because of Israel and its fighting success,” he continued. “Likewise, [Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky] and Ukraine would like to make a deal and stop the madness. They have ridiculously lost 400,000 soldiers, and many more civilians.”

“There should be an immediate ceasefire and negotiations should begin. Too many lives are being so needlessly wasted, too many families destroyed, and if it keeps going, it can turn into something much bigger, and far worse. I know Vladimir well. This is his time to act. China can help. The World is waiting!” Trump said.

Assad ascended to the presidency in 2000 and kept his hold on power through more than a decade of civil war with the help of allies in Iran and Russia. Recent conflicts depleted resources among his allies and left Assad in a weakened state that terrorist rebels, who had been restricted to Syria’s northwest region for years, took advantage of to topple the Syrian government.

The terrorist rebels are led by HTS, which grew out of an offshoot of al-Qaeda. HTS later split with al-Qaeda, but earned its own designation as a U.S.-recognized terror group in 2018. HTS has been backed by Turkey in its fight to topple Assad.

Trump earlier called for the United States to stay out of the conflict in Syria.

“Syria is a mess, but is not our friend, & THE UNITED STATES SHOULD HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH IT,” Trump said in a post on X. “THIS IS NOT OUR FIGHT. LET IT PLAY OUT. DO NOT GET INVOLVED!”

White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan said Saturday that the Biden administration will not get involved “militarily” in the Syrian conflict, however, the administration will seek to protect U.S. interests in the region and stop a resurgence of ISIS.

“The first, critically is, do not let this allow for the resurgence of ISIS, and we are going to take steps to make sure that that happens,” Sullivan said at the Reagan National Defense Forum. “Second, we do have a profound interest in shoring up the security of our partners in the region, Israel, Jordan, Iraq, others – we’ll do that. And third, we will attend to the humanitarian situation because we believe that we have an obligation to do that.”

No Justice, No Peace!

According to Fox News:

Attorney Brian Claypool accused the prosecution of intentionally “overcharging” Marine veteran Daniel Penny in the Jordan Neely subway chokehold case, knowing the move would boil down to the jury weighing on the “easier-to-prove” lesser charge.

The judge in the high-profile case granted the prosecution’s motion to dismiss the top charge of second-degree manslaughter before the jury broke for the weekend, leaving them to weigh the lesser charge of criminally negligent homicide when court deliberations resume on Monday.

Jurors failed to reach a unanimous agreement twice, prompting the dismissal.

“I thought when this case started that this prosecutor overcharged Daniel Penny. This never was a second-degree manslaughter case; that requires Penny to intend to harm Jordan Neely. That requires proof that Penny knew and had reasonable belief to know that Jordan Neely was going to die because of this chokehold and still did it,” Claypool said.

“There’s no facts to support that, so these prosecutors overcharged, knowing they’d never get a conviction on second-degree manslaughter, and then got what they wanted. Then they get the judge to say, ‘Well, you can’t agree on that one, but let’s go to the lesser charge, which is easier to prove.’ What that does is it induces jurors to throw up their arms after they’ve been deliberating three or four days and say, ‘OK, let’s just get them on the lesser charge,’ so it’s patently unfair, and that’s a miscarriage of justice.”

Penny’s defense said in a statement Friday that it is “cautiously optimistic” that the remaining count will be dismissed by the jury on Monday, allowing the “nightmare” to be put behind Penny.

These Are Not Peaceful People

According to CBS 12 Action News out of Redding, California:

The Butte County Sheriff released new information about the motive of the gunman who shot two children at a Christian school in Palermo this week. The district attorney said it could possibly be considered a hate crime.

At a news conference Thursday evening, Butte County Sheriff  Kory Honea identified the gunman as 56-year-old Glenn Litton who grew up in Butte County. Honea said Litton had written about committing this crime in response to American actions against Palestinians.

The sheriff’s office released surveillance photos of Litton arriving at the Feather River  Adventist School just after noon on Wednesday Dec. 4 for a tour of the school under the ruse that he wanted to enroll a child. He spoke to the principal and received a tour of campus. The principal told investigators it was a cordial visit with no indication of hostility.

As Litton was leaving campus and headed toward the parking lot, Sheriff Honea said Litton suddenly changed direction and started walking toward the playground where children were headed back to class after a break. The surveillance photo shows Litton reaching under his jacket, into his waistband where he apparently had a handgun.

Litton started shooting with the handgun, hitting two children before taking his own life with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.  Sheriff Honea said Roman Mendez, age 6, was shot two times, and Elias Wolford, age 5, was shot once. Both boys are in kindergarten and remain in critical condition at a trauma center in Sacramento.

According to Sheriff Honea, Litton had also made an appointment to visit the Seventh-Day Adventist school in Red Bluff on Thursday. Investigators say that was his alternative target.

Litton had attended the Seventh-Day Adventist school in Paradise as a child. The sheriff’ said they investigated if the gunman Litton targeted the school due to its religious affiliation and obtained his writings describing his motive for the attack.

“Information that is most probative to why he chose this school is this statement right here,” Honea said “It reads ‘Countermeasure involving child executions has now been imposed at the Seventh-Day Adventist school in California, United States by the International Alliance. Lieutenant Glenn Litton of the Alliance, carried out countermeasure in necessitated response to America’s involvement in Genocide and Oppression of Palestinians along with attack towards Yemen.”

Sheriff Honea found no evidence of an organization called the International Alliance. He said Litton suffered from mental health issues and had a long criminal history. He had served prison time, mostly for identity theft, and stealing.

Action News Now asked Butte County District Attorney Mike Ramsey if Litton had survived, would he have been charged with religious hate crimes because he gunned down two children at a Christian school and had mentioned the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in his writing. Ramsey said it’s “possible,” but added it would be speculative.

The FBI wants to learn about Litton’s beliefs and ideology from people who knew him. He was recently homeless. He had been staying at hotels and was seen near the Motel 6 in Chico Wednesday morning before the shootings.  He was also known to work out at local gyms, If you have information about Glenn Litton, contact the FBI, at 1-800-CALL FBI or online at tips.fbi.gov.
