Could Google decide to embrace Trump’s policies?
One of Joe Biden’s commutations has turned out to be a big mistake.
And China may assist in helping the United States develop and important technology.
News
Here is some news:
- Google on Monday posted to X that they would be changing the name of the Gulf of Mexico on all their maps to the Gulf of America after President Donald Trump issued an executive order making the change. They will also be using the new name Mount McKinley instead of Denali.
- “We’ve received a few questions about naming within Google Maps. We have a longstanding practice of applying name changes when they have been updated in official government sources,” the tech giant said on X.
- Less than 600 people crossed illegally into the U.S. from Mexico on Sunday – a stunningly low number since President Donald Trump took office.
- Sources tell Fox News that not a single one of the nine sectors received more than 200 crossings on Jan. 26, and the number of daily encounters only reached 582 in total. The Del Rio sector – which is the same sector that would sustain over 4,000 crossings per day during the height of the border crisis in December 2023 – only recorded 60 crossings.
- For comparison, the daily number of border encounters during the final days of the Biden White House teetered between 1,200 to 1,400 per day.
- President Donald Trump on Monday said Microsoft was in talks to acquire TikTok, shortly after the social media app went dark last week. He further suggested that he would like to see a bidding war over the popular platform.
- In Joe Biden’s last days in the White House, he issued another round of commutations for prisoners, totaling nearly 2,500 people. Among the list of those whose sentences were commuted was that of Adrian Peeler, a man who was convicted in the 1999 murder of an 8-year-old boy and his mother.
- Peeler was included on a list of inmates whose prison sentences will now expire on July 16, 2025, with $10,000 being taken off their fine or restitution amounts, if applicable.
- According to the Hartford Courant, Peeler was convicted for the January 1999 shooting death of 8-year-old Leroy “B.J.” Brown and his mother Karen Clarke. He reportedly conducted the killings on orders from his older brother Russell Peeler, who was a partner in their Bridgeport drug gang. Prosecutors said at the time that Russell was about to be tried for killing Clarke’s boyfriend, Rudolf Snead, who was a rival drug dealer in the Connecticut city, and the brothers wanted to eliminate B.J. as a witness against Russell. The 8-year-old had told police that he and another boy were sitting in Snead’s car and saw Russell Peeler shoot Snead in a 1997 drive-by-attack, of which he survived.
- On Inauguration Day, the shocking news that a US Border Patrol officer had been shot dead near the Canadian border in Vermont in an incident involving a now-deceased foreign national was overshadowed by coverage of Donald Trump’s events in the nation’s capital. Air Force Veteran and border agent David Maland
- One week later, a 21-year-old Washington woman was charged over the deadly incident, but little has been reported about her and her deceased accomplice, a German man.
- Around a week before the Jan. 20 attack, federal law enforcement had been surveilling German man Felix “Ophelia” Baukholt and Seattle woman Teresa “Milo” Consuelo Youngblut, after staff at a Lyndonville, Vt. motel reported seeing them with black tactical clothing, weapons and protective militia-style equipment.

“Emilia Pérez” star Karla Sofía Gascón became the first trans-identifying person in history to be nominated for an Academy Award as the committee announced the nominees on Thursday morning.

Previously, Gascón jointly won the Cannes Film Festival Award for Best Actress alongside the movie’s other co-stars, becoming the first trans-identifying star to win the prize. The “Emilia Pérez” headliner also got a Best Actress nomination at the Golden Globes but lost out to Demi Moore for her role in “The Substance.”
Despite controversy surrounding the film, “Emilia Pérez” received the most nominations at this year’s Oscars with 13.
