Episode 1018 – Promises Already Broken

California is making big promises to those who lost their homes in the fires but are slowly shrinking back into the same old bureaucratic mess.

Kids in New York are proving Darwin is correct.

And the Department of Governmental Efficiency is saving a billion dollars a day. This is flipping out the media.

Here We Go

According to the New York Post:

Government red tape means it could take up to 18 months to clear the ash and debris from the charred remains of homes that were burned in the Los Angeles wildfires.

A federal program will pay contractors to haul away the rubble at no cost to residents, but they’ll have to work through layers of bureaucracy — including the Los Angeles County government, the federal Army Corps of Engineers and the Environmental Protection Agency — to get it done.

That means that even through the wildfires have finally been contained, devastated Los Angeles homeowners can either pay out of pocket for the costly removal — or potentially wait more than a year before they can finally rebuild, authorities said.

Meanwhile, unlicensed contractors and scam artist landlords are coming out of the woodwork to prey on victims, officials warned.

Hell, Gavin Newsom says it:

But there’s more. Barbie-boy has decided that there are more important things to spend money on than the victims of fire.

According to Fox News:

Gov. Gavin Newsom signed the $50 million special legislative “Trump-proofing” package which he proposed for Democrats to pass following President Donald Trump’s election.

Newsom said the bill will “bolster funding for legal services programs that are vital to safeguarding the civil rights of California’s most vulnerable residents, including people with disabilities, youth who are homeless, victims of human trafficking and wage theft, people facing unlawful evictions, immigrants and more.

“None of the funding in this bill is intended to be used for immigration-related legal services for noncitizens convicted of serious or violent felonies,” he added in a signing statement.

The package, which was passed by the state Senate and Assembly, allocates $25 million to the California Department of Justice to support legal battles against Trump’s federal policies, including environmental regulations and illegal immigration. An additional $25 million is designated for legal aid groups to assist illegal immigrants facing potential deportation.

Newsom lobbed hundreds of lawsuits against the Trump administration during Trump’s first term.

Darwin Was Right!

According to the New York Post:

Ka’Von Wooden loved trains. The 15-year-old had an encyclopedic knowledge of New York City’s subway system and dreamed of becoming a train operator.

Instead, on a December morning in 2022, Ka’Von died after he climbed to the roof of a moving J train in Brooklyn and then fell onto the tracks as it headed onto the Williamsburg Bridge.

He is one of more than a dozen New Yorkers, many young boys, who have been killed or badly injured in recent years while attempting to “subway surf,” a practice that dates back a century but has been supercharged by social media.

Authorities have tried to address the problem with public awareness campaigns and by deploying drones to catch thrill-seekers in the act.

But for some, a more fundamental question is not being addressed: Why are kids like Ka’Von able to climb on top of subway cars in the first place?

“When Ka’Von died … literally two weeks later, another child died. And another one. That makes no sense,” his mother, Y’Vonda Maxwell, told The Associated Press, saying transit and law enforcement officials haven’t done enough. “Why should my child have not been the end?”

Making trains harder to climb, and train surfers more easy to detect with cameras and sensors, could be part of the solution, some experts say.

  • This is a reason kids need to get off social media.
  • Where are the parents here. I’m sure suing the MTA for millions because their son was an idiot.
  • You know how to end this?
    • Arrest those that do it.
    • Show pictures of those who got splattered on the track.
    • Don’t allow kids to ride the train. Make them go with their parents.

Dumbass of the Day

Not a Shock

According to the New York Post:

A devoted dog mum has ruffled fur online with her wild take on pups in public.

She believes dogs should be allowed everywhere babies can go.

A clip of her speaking on the topic was posted to Subway Takes, a social media account that interviews people on the New York subway about their unpopular opinions.

Host Kareem immediately shot her down.

“You want to bring a f–king pitbull to a film?”

“Absolutely not. Dogs belong outside,” Kareem declared.

But the pup parent doubled down, her chihuahua, Pigeon, perched on her lap like royalty.

“Restaurants, movie theaters, airplanes, hotels— all the things,” she said.

The host clearly thought she was barking mad.

“Movie theaters? You want to bring a f–king pitbull to a film?” he asked, incredulous.

But Pigeon, it turns out, is no stranger to the cinema.

“Pigeon saw Knives Out in theatre with me,” she revealed, pointing proudly at the pint-sized cinephile.

Kareem admitted her dog was an exception—“a beautiful creature”—but he still wasn’t sold on her broader argument.

The woman’s dog-friendly vision extends to culinary experiences:

“If babies can go, why can’t dogs?

“When you go out to dinner and hear babies screaming, crying, throwing things on the ground, you should consider if a dog should be allowed there too.”

And dogs, she argued, aren’t just quiet dinner guests—they’re helpful.

“Dogs can clean up the mess that a baby leaves,” she suggested, completely serious.

“Dehumanization of babies”

In her world, no door should remain closed off to Pigeon.

When she takes him shopping, he rides in the trolley with a coat to cushion his bottom— wouldn’t want him to be uncomfortable now, would we?

Kareem, still struggling to digest her stance, threw out another scenario.

“What if you had a golden retriever in the dentist’s office? That sounds to me like an occupational hazard, because those things are dumb and big,” Kareem argues.

She conceded there might need to be some boundaries.

“The law with dogs coming places—when I’m mayor—it will have nuance to it,” she joked.

“We’ll workshop it.”

The comment section came to the debate like a dog to a bone (sorry, had to do it).

“The dehumanization of babies and children has been one of the weirder trends on the internet in the past few years,” one viewer wrote.

“Babies should be allowed to go everywhere that dogs go,” another argued.

“People aren’t allergic to babies,” a third pointed out.

But perhaps the most controversial question posed in the almost two-minute clip was by the woman herself:

“Should we put human lives ahead of dog lives?”

(Note: the law already does.)
