I bet you’re wondering what generation is most likely to get hit by a train. Well, the New York Post has an answer.
Chicago teachers are proving why we need to have school choice in this country.
And economic news is out. Some news is good, some is bad. Let’s talk about it.
News
Here is some news:
- Mike Walz, the security advisor for Donald Trump, has been fired.
- The GDP shrank by 0.3% in the first quarter of 2025, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped about 200 points in response to that news.
- That is the second month in a row of GDP shrinkage.
- The most recent annual inflation rate for the United States was 2.4% for the 12 months ending in March 2025. That’s down from 2.8%.
- Prices were static in March, and personal incomes rose by $116.8 billion, or 0.5%.
- President Trump continues to tout his trade policies as China makes quiet concessions, but also cancels significant U.S. agricultural orders.
- China has created a list of U.S.-made products that will be exempt from its retaliatory 125% tariffs, in addition to other exemptions it has already made on pharmaceuticals, microchips, and aircraft engines.
- Behind the scenes, Beijing is apparently privately notifying companies about these latest exemptions – that’s obviously to preserve this posture that China will fight Trump on tariffs to the end.
- Last week, China made its largest cancellation of pork orders in five years, halting about 12,000 tons of U.S. pork. The nation has also significantly reduced its soybean order by 97% compared to two weeks ago. For some context, U.S. farmers export more than $176 billion in agricultural products a year. Nearly 10% of that is soybeans and pork for China.
- FBI agents who knelt with Black Lives Matter protesters following George Floyd’s death have been reassigned to less coveted positions, according to insiders briefed on the matter.
- The agents were photographed kneeling with Black Lives Matter protestors during the 2020 protests in Washington D.C. following George Floyd’s death.
- The agency was deployed by then-Attorney General Bill Barr in June 2020 to protect federal buildings and aid in crowd control efforts in the streets as local law enforcement were being overwhelmed by BLM protestors.
- Owen McIntire, a 19-year-old from Missouri, was arrested for allegedly firebombing Tesla vehicles in Kansas City, an act the ATF labeled as a “violent criminal act” on April 18, 2025, reflecting heightened tensions around Tesla facilities amid eco-activism and anti-corporate sentiments.
- McIntire, diagnosed with autism, ADHD, depression, and gender dysphoria, was released from federal custody on April 24, 2025, before trial, as Judge Jessica Hedges ruled that jail could not adequately address McIntire’s medical needs, including gender-affirming care, sparking debate over justice system priorities.
- The decision aligns with a 2023 Supreme Court ruling that gender dysphoria is protected under the Americans with Disabilities Act, highlighting a growing legal trend to accommodate transgender individuals’ medical needs, though critics argue it undermines accountability for serious crimes like arson.
This made me happy.

The Human Race is in Trouble
According to the New York Post:
Gen Z and Millennials are the most likely age groups to be hit by trains because they are distracted by their phones, experts have warned.
Network Rail have released a shocking CCTV montage showing people risking their lives on the train tracks.
In one chilling clip a teenage boy is seen standing on the lines while gazing at his mobile, just moments before a train passes.
Another clip shows a young dad walking two children across the tracks while utterly absorbed by his hand-held device.
It comes as new data reveals nearly half of people (47 percent) admit they’ve made a mistake while being distracted by their phone.
Young people are among the most distracted, with 87 percent of Gen Z and 70 percent of Millennials admitting to phone-related mishaps.
Not a Shock
The X post highlights a stark disparity in Chicago Public Schools (CPS), where a 70% increase in per-student spending since 2012—now at $29,000 per student—has coincided with only 11% of Black students achieving reading proficiency, down from higher rates in previous years, per Illinois Policy Institute data.
Teacher salaries in CPS have risen to an average of $100,000, with the Chicago Teachers Union demanding further increases to $145,000 by 2028, yet student outcomes have declined, with reading proficiency dropping 63% and math 78% since 2012, according to the Illinois Policy Institute.
The post criticizes systemic failures, noting that despite increased funding, bureaucratic inefficiencies and union priorities—such as the Chicago Teachers Union president’s decision to send her son to private school—undermine student success, a trend exacerbated by policies like Oregon’s 2021 removal of reading and math requirements to aid “students of color.”
