Episode 786 – Welcome to Bread Lines, Chicago!

Ukraine has some very odd policy choices. I wonder why?

Be prepared to pay a ton for a car. It seems Tesla will be cheaper than the typical Ford compact soon.

And California continues to f- up its state.

Dumbasses of the Day

War? What War?

They are in the middle of a war. Why are they talking about climate change and hiring a trans cultist who isn’t Ukrainian (or even speaks Ukrainian)? Shouldn’t they be worried about their war?

The want more money. Zelensky is there, asking for another $24 billion.

The End of the American Car?

According to the Daily Wire:

The United Auto Workers announced a strike against Ford, General Motors, and Stellantis, as the union demands higher wages and “economic and social justice.”

Around 13,000 auto workers stopped working as picketing began outside a Ford factory in Wayne, Michigan; a GM assembly plant in Wentzville, Missouri; and a Stellantis Jeep plant in Toledo, Ohio. The strike comes after weeks of negotiations between the union and leadership at the automakers.

What is the union asking for?

  • A 40% raise.
  • Pension based pay raises.
  • Pension benefits for all tiers of worker received equally.
  • To work 32 hours a week but be paid for 40 hours.
  • Just a little FYI, the auto makers offered a 20-25% raise with inflation bumps.
  • All the other crap is nonsense.

This could be the end of the American auto industry or the end of unions. One is going to break.

Speaking of the End of an Industry

California is doing their darndest to nationalize all business.

According to Fox Business:

“The new ‘AB 1228’ legislation has been voted into law and will result in a devastating financial blow to California McDonald’s franchisees at a projected annual cost of $250,000 per McDonald’s restaurant,” the advocacy group representing some 1,000 McDonald’s franchisees said in the memo obtained by FOX Business.

“These costs simply cannot be absorbed by the current business model.”

CNBC earlier reported on the NOA memo.

Among the bill’s key components:

  1. It would raise the minimum wage for fast-food workers to $20 per hour.
  2. It would apply to restaurants with at least 60 locations nationwide, except for restaurants that make and sell their own bread.
  3. It would also create a 10-person council to govern fast-food chains and set guidelines for working conditions and wages.

When signing the original version of the legislation, California Gov. Gavin Newsom said, “California is committed to ensuring that the men and women who have helped build our world-class economy are able to share in the state’s prosperity. Today’s action gives hardworking fast-food workers a stronger voice and seat at the table to set fair wages and critical health and safety standards across the industry.”

I would assume that 10-person council is not going to have restaurant owners on it. This is pure fascism (bordering on communism).

People will point to the fact that it only affects franchises of 60 stores or more nationwide. That just makes the idea worse. Store owners who have 60 stores are, obviously, good with management. States should not be discouraging them to leave the state or not opening more stores in the state. It’s dumb.

This also does not help the economy. There will be more of a push to automate the business, eliminating jobs. It will raise the cost of the Big Mac which is already unreasonably high. This means less customers and more layoffs. Finally, this will close stores. Companies are not going to see the point of opening or maintaining a business if they have to pay $45 an hour to keep employees.

Last, we have forgotten the point of the fast food joint. A monkey can do that job. I know, I did it. This is a job for high school kids, not for adults trying to make ends meet. It’s for someone to gain experience so they can get a real job that pays something. If someone is at McDonald’s and not management. they shouldn’t bitch about not making any money. It is their decisions that are keeping them there and they will never be anything in society until they figure that out.

Speaking of Communism

This is straight from the Soviet, Chinese and Cuba playbook. I told you that all this crap done my democrats is part of the plan. This is part of the plan.

According to the Post Millennial:

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson has revealed that the city will be partnering with the Economic Security Project to explore the creation of a government-owned grocery store in order to assist “historically underserved communities.”

“All Chicagoans deserve to live near convenient, affordable, healthy grocery options. We know access to grocery stores is already a challenge for many residents, especially on the South and West sides,” said Mayor Brandon Johnson, according to an office press release. “A better, stronger, safer future is one where our youth and our communities have access to the tools and resources they need to thrive. My administration is committed to advancing innovative, whole-of-government approaches to address these inequities. I am proud to work alongside partners to take this step in envisioning what a municipally owned grocery store in Chicago could look like.”

Johnson’s release noted it aims to promote “food equity,” and that estimates from the U.S. Department of Agriculture found that “63.5% of residents in West Englewood and 52% of residents in East Garfield Park live more than half a mile from their nearest grocery store, whereas in West Town less than 1% of residents experience this barrier to food access.”

This initiative, if completed, would mark Chicago becoming the first major US city to launch a government-owned grocery store to deal with “food inequity,” according to the release.
