More of This to Come
According to Fox News:
President Biden invoked a Cold War-era law in a surprising move Friday to pour taxpayer funds into domestic manufacturing of electric heat pumps, an alternative to gas-powered residential furnaces.
In a joint announcement with the White House, the Department of Energy (DOE) said the federal government would award a “historic” $169 million for nine projects across 15 sites nationwide in an effort to accelerate electric heat pump manufacturing. The significant level of funding was made possible after Biden utilized the 1950 Defense Production Act (DPA) to increase domestic production of green energy technologies.
“Getting more American-made electric heat pumps on the market will help families and businesses save money with efficient heating and cooling technology,” said Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm. “These investments will create thousands of high-quality, good-paying manufacturing jobs and strengthen America’s energy supply chain, while creating healthier indoor spaces through home-grown clean energy technologies.”
“Today’s Defense Production Act funds for heat pump manufacturing show that President Biden is treating climate change as the crisis it is,” added John Podesta, the White House clean energy czar. “These awards will grow domestic manufacturing, create good-paying jobs, and boost American competitiveness in industries of the future.”
And Ali Zaidi, who serves as Biden’s national climate adviser, said the president was “using his wartime emergency powers under the Defense Production Act to turbocharge U.S. manufacturing of clean technologies and strengthen our energy security.”
Under the actions announced Friday, the DOE will send millions of dollars to companies like Copeland, Honeywell International, Mitsubishi Electric and York International Corporation, all of which are billion-dollar multinational corporations. The projects will advance manufacturing of industrial, commercial and residential heat pump technology.
I Wonder Why Them?
According to Fox Business:
Phoenix-based Grand Canyon University (GCU), the largest Christian university in the U.S., announced plans to appeal a $37.7 million fine imposed by the Department of Education (DOE), on allegations the Arizona higher learning institution misled students about the cost of its doctoral programs over several years.
The DOE said in a press release earlier this month that an investigation conducted by the office of Federal Student Aid (FSA) found GCU “lied” to over 7,500 former and current students about the cost of its doctoral programs.
The release also said GCU “falsely advertises” a lower cost for its doctoral programs, adding that about 98% of students ended up paying more than the advertised cost.
The university was given a 20-day deadline to request a hearing with the DOE’s Office of Hearings and Appeals or file a response to the FSA to explain why the fine should not be imposed, while also imposing specific conditions on the school to continue participating in the federal student aid programs.
GCU told the DOE the doctoral programs cost between $40,000 and $49,000.
But They’re Not After the Kids
According to the Daily Wire:
The Girl Scouts of the USA is set to offer a four-part “racial equity” training series to volunteers and parents focusing on “internalized racism” and “white supremacy culture.”
The 111 year-old organization created to serve America’s young women appears to have adopted Critical Race Theory, the divisive ideology that has taken root in America’s schools and corporations. The four part series, set to begin on December 13, will start with a virtual lesson titled “Foundations in Racial Equity,” before launching into “Foundations in Internalized Racism” a month later on January 16.
“Understanding and Decentering White Supremacy Culture” will take place on February 5, and will be followed by the final lesson, titled “Navigating Change, Power and Equitable Decision Making,” in late March.
“These D.E.I. Racial Equity workshops are designed for participants to engage in building a learning community, developing shared language and analysis around diversity, inclusion, and equity, deeply interrogating race,” a description of the sessions obtained by The Daily Wire reads. “Participants also interrogate structural racism and its historical construction while reflecting greatly on the way it manifests in our individual experiences, organizational dynamics, and systemic outcomes.”
The decision to offer “racial equity” lessons mired in the dogmas of Critical Race Theory comes after the Girl Scouts announced earlier this year that scouts could earn an “LGBTQ+ Pride Month Fun Patch” if they attended a pride parade, memorized a poem written by an author who identifies as LGBTQ, or “read about the Stonewall uprising in 1969 and its importance to the LGBTQ+ community,” writing a poem of their own about the event.
Knowing Stuff Ain’t Their Job Anyway
According to the Daily Wire:
One of New Jersey’s main teachers unions is calling for the end of the basic skills test for certifying teachers.
The New Jersey Education Association (NJEA) is advocating for the demise of the Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators: Reading, Writing and Math. New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy’s signing of Bill S1553 would eliminate that requirement; NJEA called the test “an unnecessary barrier” hindering the alleviation of teacher shortages.
“When the New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE) adopted changes to the administrative code around teacher certification, it missed an opportunity to eliminate this requirement, which created an unnecessary barrier to entering the profession,” stated NJEA.
