Episode 956 – Taking Care of Business!

Israel strikes Hezbollah…twice! Let’s talk about why the deaths of dozens is very awesome.

A woman who randomly stabs a child may never say prison time.

And California is going after jokes, further eroding free speech.

What If She Gets Better

According to WKYC:

Bionca Ellis — the 33-year-old woman accused of killing 3-year-old Julian Wood in a double stabbing outside of a Giant Eagle in North Olmsted — has been ruled incompetent to stand trial following a 20-day evaluation at Northcoast Behavioral Health.

The results of the evaluation were announced during a hearing Friday in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court. However, the doctor handling Ellis’ case said there was “a substantial probability of restoration to competency within the statutory time frame if provided with a course of treatment.”

Ellis will receive in-patient treatment at Northcoast Behavioral Health. Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court Judge John Russo ordered Ellis to cooperate with all prescribed medications and ordered her to be returned to Cuyahoga County Jail once she is either competent to stand trial or “unable to be restored to competency.”

A competency hearing was first ordered for Ellis back on July 16. In August, Russo announced that Ellis would undergo a 20-day evaluation based on the recommendation from a forensic psychiatrist.

The First Wave

According to the Daily Wire:

Thousands of Hezbollah terrorists were injured on Tuesday during one of the most efficient large-scale military attacks in the history of warfare.

Israel reportedly infiltrated Hezbollah’s supply chain and rigged thousands of pagers with pentaerythritol tetranitrate (PETN), a highly explosive material, which was then remotely detonated simultaneously.

The pagers were programmed to beep for several seconds before exploding, The New York Times reported.

A tiny bit of explosive material was placed in each pager next to the battery and was detonated with a switch that allowed the bomb to be triggered remotely.

The pagers were detonated at 3:30 p.m. in Lebanon when the terrorists received a message that appeared as though it was coming from Hezbollah’s leadership, The Times reported.

Approximately 4,000 were injured, 500 of whom were listed in critical condition, and at least 11 were killed. Among the 11 that have so far been announced as dead, at 10 were Hezbollah terrorists.

The Second Wave

According to the Daily Wire:

Israel reportedly conducted a second wave of mass precision bombings against the Iranian-backed Hezbollah terrorist organization on Wednesday, detonating “thousands” of walkie-talkies used by the group.

“Israel blew up thousands of personal radios (Walkie-Talkies) which were used by Hezbollah members in Lebanon in a second wave of its intelligence operation which started on Tuesday with the explosions of Hezbollah pager devices, per two sources with knowledge,” said Israeli journalist Barak Ravid.

He added, “The personal radios that were booby-trapped in advance by Israeli intelligence services and then delivered to Hezbollah were part of the militia’s emergency communications system which was supposed to be used during a war with Israel, the sources said.”

The news comes after Israel wounded thousands of Hezbollah terrorists on Tuesday when it detonated pagers that they were using to communicate. The pagers were packed with a small amount of explosives and a switch that allowed them to be remotely detonated.

I’m Right Here, Gavin

According to the New York Times:

California will now require social media companies to moderate the spread of election-related impersonations powered by artificial intelligence, known as “deepfakes,” after Gov. Gavin Newsom, a Democrat, signed three new laws on the subject Tuesday.

The three laws, including a first-of-its kind law that imposes a new requirement on social media platforms, largely deal with banning or labeling the deepfakes.

Only one of the laws will take effect in time to affect the 2024 presidential election, but the trio could offer a road map for regulators across the country who are attempting to slow the spread of the manipulative content powered by artificial intelligence.

The laws are expected to face legal challenges from social media companies or groups focusing on free speech rights.
