Episode 971 – There are Lies, Darn Lies, and Statistics!

In an effort to save democracy, a California bureaucracy goes after Elon Musk and the U.S. military.

And democratic politicians really don’t understand the purpose of the Constitution.

Disgusting

According to Politico:

Elon Musk’s tweets about the presidential election and spreading falsehoods about Hurricane Helene are endangering his ability to launch rockets off California’s central coast.

The California Coastal Commission on Thursday rejected the Air Force’s plan to give SpaceX permission to launch up to 50 rockets a year from Vandenberg Air Force Base in Santa Barbara County.

“Elon Musk is hopping about the country, spewing and tweeting political falsehoods and attacking FEMA while claiming his desire to help the hurricane victims with free Starlink access to the internet,” Commissioner Gretchen Newsom said at the meeting in San Diego.

The agency’s commissioners, appointed by the governor and legislative leaders, voted 6-4 to reject the Air Force’s plan over concerns that all SpaceX launches would be considered military activity, shielding the company from having to acquire its own permits, even if military payloads aren’t being carried.

“I do believe that the Space Force has failed to establish that SpaceX is a part of the federal government, part of our defense,” said Commissioner Dayna Bochco.

Space Launch Delta 30, which oversees military launch operations on the West Coast, said in a statement after the meeting that the Air Force has worked closely with commission staff on environmental protection issues and will continue to do so.

“Today’s vote hasn’t changed the [Department of the Air Force] or Vandenberg’s unwavering commitment to preserving the California coastline and the precious species that reside there,” said Ravi Chaudhary, the Air Force’s assistant secretary for energy, installations and environment. “The Space Force’s dedication to collaboration here is in many ways unprecedented — so is our commitment to ensuring dialogue continues.”

The Coastal Commission, known for its sharp-elbowed defense of public access to the state’s 840-mile coastline, has been sparring with the Air Force’s Space Force branch since May 2023, when DOD asked to increase SpaceX’s satellite launches from Vandenberg from six to 36 per year.

Things came to a head in August when commissioners unloaded on DOD for resisting their recommendations for reducing the impacts of the launches — which disturb wildlife like threatened snowy plovers as well as people, who often have to evacuate nearby Jalama Beach.

The commission ultimately approved the 36-launch plan at the meeting, on the condition that Space Force undertake seven measures to improve environmental protection and coastal access. But military officials didn’t commit to following them during the hearing, drawing fiery criticism from commissioners.

“Space Force came here and intentionally disrespected us,” Bochco said at the August meeting.

They’re Not Suppose to Have Control

According to the Post Millennial:

Hillary Clinton has called for social media companies to take stronger actions in censoring content on their platforms, warning that without moderation, “We lose total control.”

During a recent discussion on CNN, Clinton stated, “We need national action and sadly, our Congress has been dysfunctional when it comes to addressing these threats to our children. So you’re absolutely right. This should be at the top of every legislative, political agenda.”

She went on to advocate for the repeal of Section 230, a key provision of US law that grants immunity to internet platforms from liability for content posted by users. “We should be, in my view, repealing something called section 230, which gave platforms on the internet immunity because they were thought to be just pass-throughs, that they shouldn’t be judged for the content that is posted. But we now know that that was an overly simple view,” she explained.

A little further down in the article:

The Supreme Court has previously ruled to keep Section 230 in place. The law states in part that “No provider or user of an interactive computer service shall be treated as the publisher or speaker of any information provided by another information content provider,” and “No cause of action may be brought and no liability may be imposed under any State or local law that is inconsistent with this section.”

While Clinton added stipulations about content that is related to illegal or violent content, her comments come as part of her broader efforts to call for a crackdown on so-called “misinformation” on social media. Last month, the former first lady and secretary of state suggested on MSNBC that Americans could be “civilly or even in some cases criminally charged” for certain posts in an effort to establish deterrence.

This is Protecting Our Rights?

According to Fox News:

Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey immediately implemented new gun legislation on Wednesday that not only cracks down on unserialized “ghost guns,” and attachments like bump stocks and trigger cranks, but also requires applicants to demonstrate basic safety principles and complete live-fire training before being granted a gun license.

State lawmakers approved the gun reform law in July, which was expected to go into effect later this month, and comes as the deep-blue state already has some of the toughest gun laws in the nation.

The Associated Press reported that gun rights advocates were working to gather enough signatures to suspend the law before it took effect.

But rather than wait for the law to go into effect on Oct. 23, or 90 days after the governor signed it into law, Healey decided to put the law into effect immediately, blocking any temporary suspension of the law being sought by gun rights advocates.

“This gun safety law bans ghost guns, strengthens the Extreme Risk Protection Order statute to keep guns out of the hands of people who are a danger to themselves or others, and invests in violence prevention programs,” Healey said in a statement. “It is important that these measures go into effect without delay.”

The new law expands the state’s “red flag” law that allows police, health care and school officials to alert the courts if they believe someone with access to guns poses a threat and should have their firearms confiscated temporarily.

Gun rights advocates have called the law a “historic attack on our civil rights,” adding it imposes unnecessary barriers on those who are law-abiding citizens and want to own a gun.

Understand, removing a right is done through a flood. It is done through leaks. We used to be able to own canons and automatic weapons. That is not more and gun violence hasn’t gone down.

I also want to point out the same people who want to take away the Second Amendment rights also want to defund the police and want cashless bail. The criminal will be the overwatch. This is the same thing that happened within the gulags of the Soviet Union and every other communist country.

Good for Him

According to the New York Post:

A resident of Hanson, Massachusetts, has been asked to stop projecting political signs onto the town’s municipal water tower or face fines, according to a statement released by Hanson Town Administrator Lisa Green.

Green issued the statement after she became aware the resident was projecting the image from his residence.

“On Friday, Oct. 11, the Town of Hanson became aware that a resident was projecting the image of a political sign from their property onto the Town of Hanson municipal water tower at 228 High St. This misleads the public into believing that this activity is sanctioned by or condoned by the Town,” the statement from Green read.

Green went on to say the town “does not endorse candidates for any office from any political party.”

Town officials are combating the visibility of the “Trump 2024” campaign logo being projected onto the water tower with a floodlight; however, it was still visible as of Friday evening.

And the cease-and-desist order being prepared for the violator will impose a $100-per-day fine until the activity stops.

“Highway Department employees have positioned a spotlight to shine on the water tower to dim the projection. Further measures are being considered at this time,” the statement said. “This individual’s actions have the potential to cost a significant amount of taxpayer dollars, including attorney fees, overtime to pay Highway Department workers to turn the spotlight on and off each day, and the potential for having to rent or purchase stronger lighting equipment. The $100 per day fine will likely not cover these expenses.”

Hanson officials wanted to be clear that they respect everyone’s rights and expression of political views as long as they do not insinuate that they are views of the town as a whole.
