Episode 1068 – I Need to Rant More About China!

I went on a rant yesterday about allowing the Chinese government to control our food supplies. Well, I’m going to go on another one.

District court judges are at it again with interfering with the Trump agenda. Where were these guys during the Biden administration?

And be prepared for Donald Trump to be called a racist again.

News

Here is some news:

  • President Donald Trump signed a proclamation Wednesday evening banning foreign nationals from 12 countries from entering the United States and imposing heightened restrictions on seven others, reviving a signature policy from his first term that was rescinded by the Biden administration four years ago.
    • The ban, which takes effect Monday at 12:01 a.m., fully restricts entry from Afghanistan, Burma, Chad, Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen. Citizens from Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan and Venezuela face partial restrictions.
  • The Supreme Court on Thursday sided with a Wisconsin-based Catholic charity group in a case centered on unemployment tax credits for religious institutions – delivering a victory for faith-based institutions, who argued that the state’s decision had violated the religious clauses under the First Amendment.
    • In a unanimous opinion, justices on the high court agreed that the state had engaged in an “unnecessary entanglement” in attempting to define whether religious groups should be entitled to an otherwise-available tax exemption based on the state’s criteria for religious behavior.
    • The Wisconsin Supreme Court ruled that the group must pay the tax since the nature of their work was primarily secular, since it was not “operated primarily for religious purposes,” and serves and employs non-Catholics.
  • The Supreme Court ruled in favor of an Ohio woman who claimed to be the victim of so-called reverse discrimination on Thursday, making it easier for people across the country who are members of majority groups to sue for discrimination.
    • The unanimous ruling puts an end to a standard used in 20 states and the District of Columbia that imposed a higher burden of proof on white, male, and straight individuals who claimed to be the victims of discrimination on the basis of those identities.
    • The ruling was a win for Marlean Ames, a 20-year veteran of the Ohio Department of Youth Services who said that she was denied a promotion and then demoted for being straight, while both the person who received the promotion and took her old job identified as LGBT.
  • A federal judge in Colorado has temporarily blocked the Trump administration from deporting the wife and five children of Mohamed Sabry Soliman, the suspect in a recent firebombing attack at a pro-Israel demonstration in Boulder, Colorado. The family, all Egyptian nationals, was taken into custody by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and was being processed for expedited removal from the United States
  • Karine Jean-Pierre, who served as White House press secretary under President Joe Biden from May 2022 until the end of his term in January 2025, has officially left the Democratic Party and now identifies as an independent. This change was announced in conjunction with the upcoming release of her book, “Independent: A Look Inside a Broken White House, Outside the Party Lines,” scheduled for publication on October 21, 2025
    • Jean-Pierre’s decision to become an independent follows a period of disillusionment with the Democratic Party, particularly during the tumultuous weeks leading up to President Biden’s decision to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race. In her book, she describes a sense of betrayal by the party, which she says played a role in Biden’s withdrawal and in her own reassessment of partisan loyalty
    • She argues that the current political climate demands moving beyond traditional party lines, advocating for Americans to prioritize their values and independent thinking over party allegiance. Jean-Pierre emphasizes the need for “freeing ourselves of boxes” and encourages a more creative, strategic, and questioning approach to politics, rather than “blindly loyal and obedient” partisanship

They Know This Works

According to the Post Millennial:

Two Chinese nationals who have been working at the University of Michigan have been charged with attempting to smuggle a dangerous biological pathogen into the United States.

According to a press release from the Department of Justice, Yunqing Jian, 33, and Zunyong Liu, 34, both Chinese foreign nationals in the United States, were charged with conspiracy, smuggling goods into the United States, false statements, as well as visa fraud.

According to the DOJ, the Chinese nationals had tried to smuggle in a fungus called Fusarium graminearum, which can be used as a agroterrorism weapon, targeting crops and livestock consumed by the American public.

The fungus has the potential to cause “head blight” in wheat, barley, maize, and rice, and has the potential to take out millions of dollars in crops. The fungus can also cause vomiting, liver damage, and reproductive defects in humans and livestock.

The DOJ stated, “According to the complaint, Jian received Chinese government funding for her work on this pathogen in China. The complaint also alleges that Jian’s electronics contain information describing her membership in and loyalty to the Chinese Communist Party. It is further alleged that Jian’s boyfriend, Liu, works at a Chinese university where he conducts research on the same pathogen and that he first lied but then admitted to smuggling Fusarium graminearum into America—through the Detroit Metropolitan Airport—so that he could conduct research on it at the laboratory at the University of Michigan where his girlfriend, Jian, worked.”

The charges come as the Trump administration announced that it will be aggressively revoking visas for Chinese nationals in the US who are here on student visas if they have links to the CCP or if they are studying in critical fields.

“The federal charges announced today against Yunqing Jian and Zunyong Liu, both residents of the People’s Republic of China, signify a crucial advancement in our efforts to safeguard our communities and uphold national security,” said Cheyvoryea Gibson, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Detroit Field Office. “These individuals exploited their access to laboratory facilities at a local university to engage in the smuggling of biological pathogens, an act that posed an imminent threat to public safety.”

This Is Why Greta Is In Gaza

According to the Daily Wire:

The New York Times, in its inexhaustible capacity to load an argument when attacking institutions it loathes, did it once again, leaving out key information when covering a ridiculous lawsuit targeting the major oil companies of the Western Hemisphere.

The lawsuit brought by Misti Leon after the death of her mother, Juliana Leon, accuses oil companies of causing Juliana’s death in 2021 because of their contribution to climate change. Juliana, 65, died in her car on June 28, 2021, from hyperthermia. The lawsuit names Exxon, British Petroleum, Chevron, Shell, Conoco, and Phillips 66 oil companies, as well as the Olympic Pipe Company, because of their contribution to climate change.

“The day Julie died was the hottest day ever recorded in Washington with temperatures in Seattle, where Julie died, peaking around 108°F. It was the third consecutive day above 100°F, and record nighttime temperatures prevented the built environment from being able to dissipate the heat it had absorbed throughout the day. In effect, Seattle had turned into an oven,” the lawsuit claims. “This heat was deadly, particularly for those who were unable to escape the heat or were otherwise vulnerable to excessive temperatures.”

“The heat dome that scorched the Pacific Northwest in 2021 would have been ‘virtually impossible’ were it not for man-made climate change, according to researchers with World Weather Attribution, an international group of scientists and meteorologists,” The New York Times wrote. “Around the world, extreme heat has emerged as one of the deadliest manifestations of a warming planet.”

Yet the Times never mentions some salient points regarding Leon’s death, even though they’re included in the lawsuit.

By itself, the lawsuit is stupid. But, surprise, the New York Times has decided to skip some kind of important points.

The story continues:

One: Two weeks before her death, doctors performed bariatric surgery on her; she had been on a liquid diet ever since. Two: The day of her death, she was returning from a doctor’s appointment where they told her she could resume eating solid foods. The Times never mentions that the car’s air conditioning broke, prompting Leon to roll down the windows and pull over to the side of the road. Three: Weather forecasts said the heat would be intense that day.

But as was pointed out by research meteorologist Ryan Maue, who issued a thread on X about the lawsuit, “The research study that concluded this heat wave event was ‘virtually impossible’ without climate change does not provide an analysis of all ‘heat dome’ events from the past 2,000 years — instead focusing on model data since 1950.”

Dumbass of the Day

Here is a clip from the TV show “Girls,” where a character named Mimi-Rose, played by Gillian Jacobs, casually informs Adam Driver’s character that she had an abortion without discussing it with him, leading to a heated exchange. This scene was intended to portray Mimi-Rose as nonchalant about the abortion, reflecting a perspective rarely seen on television, as noted by Lena Dunham, the show’s creator, who aimed to normalize such portrayals.

The scene has sparked significant controversy and discussion, with many viewers interpreting Mimi-Rose’s actions and demeanor as cold and psychopathic, contrary to the intended message of the show. This reaction highlights a broader cultural debate on abortion, where the casualness of the decision and lack of communication with the partner are seen as morally objectionable by some, challenging the show’s attempt to present abortion as a personal choice without melodrama.

Thank God It Made It Back

According to the New York Post:

The real-life “Annabelle” doll was blamed for a string of alarming incidents by conspiracy theorists that claimed it escaped while on tour in New Orleans — but its owner confirmed it’s safely back home and was never out of his control.

The diabolical — and supposedly demonic — Raggedy Ann doll fictionalized in “The Conjuring” movie series made a pit stop at Ghost City Tours office in the Big Easy in mid-May — the same week of a daring prison breakout and a devastating fire at a former plantation nearby.

The timing led to speculation that the doll was behind the chaos.

But she’s “safely back” behind lock and key at the Warren Occult Museum in Monroe, Connecticut, owner Tony Spera told The Post.

“The doll was taken on a brief tour to several locations to show the doll to enthusiasts of the paranormal,” Spera said.

“The doll was never out of our control. We take extreme precautions when handling or transporting the doll.”

The precautions, which included having a Catholic priest traveling with Annabelle, apparently weren’t enough for some observers who believe the doll’s stint in New Orleans on May 13 and 14 was a bad omen.

An inferno destroyed the historic Nottoway Plantation House between Baton Rouge and New Orleans on May 15 and the next day 10 inmates escaped from the Orleans Justice Center. Most inmates have since been recaptured.

“I did not think people were taking it seriously, (because) I kept seeing jokes about it on Instagram and TikTok,” Ghost City Tours founder Tim Nealon told USA Today.

“But, I didn’t realize people were out here like, actually thinking that this was legit.”

He said some people are “absolutely convinced” Ghost City Tours is culpable in the prison break and fire.

They really take care of this thing:

  • It is in a locked case.
  • The case has crosses on the side.
  • The thing is blessed with holy water and oil by a Catholic priest.
  • The Catholic priest (Father Bob) travels with the doll.

Making Movies Worse

According to the New York Post:

Sarah Lin, a senior at Bronx Science who has made headlines crusading to make the movies more friendly for the hearing impaired, is continuing her fight in Albany by pushing for a proposed bill that would make it mandatory for movie theaters across the country to provide closed captioning at more screenings.

She has become the face of the movement and the brain behind its social media push, giving the cause typically focused on the elderly community a much-needed facelift.

With only two weeks left of the legislative session, Lin has been working in overdrive.

“I’ve definitely been very busy with school, but I think you always end up finding a way to make time for what you’re passionate about,” Lin, 18, of Kew Gardens, told The Post.

“Knowing that I’m able to make such real, impactful change and seeing the actual reactions and the responses from the deaf and hard of hearing community has pushed me to want to continue working on this and continue trying to pass this bill statewide.”

The Open Captioning Accessibility Act would require indoor movie theaters across the state with more than 10 shows per week to provide subtitles for at least half of their peak showtimes.
